Located at the edge of the Carson National Forest, this park offers travelers a quiet, scenic alternative to the busier resort towns nearby. It provides an authentic New Mexico experience where the high-altitude air is crisp and the night skies are remarkably clear for world-class stargazing from your campsite.

Location & Surroundings

Situated in the charming village of Questa, the park is perfectly positioned along the famous Enchanted Circle Scenic Byway. The surrounding landscape is characterized by high-desert sagebrush mesas that give way to towering mountain peaks. Being near the convergence of the Red River and the Rio Grande, visitors are treated to a dramatic geographic backdrop that defines the rugged, untouched beauty of northern New Mexico.

The park provides essential comforts designed for a smooth and relaxing stay, including full hookups with both 30 and 50-amp electrical service. Guests can utilize the on-site laundry facilities and well-maintained bathhouses after a day of exploration. The sites are generally level gravel pads and offer a mix of sun and natural shade provided by native piñon and juniper trees. High-speed Wi-Fi is also available for those who need to stay connected.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Outdoor recreation is the primary draw for this region. Just a short drive away is the Wild Rivers Recreation Area, part of the Rio Grande del Norte National Monument, which offers spectacular canyon overlooks and rugged hiking trails. Anglers will appreciate the proximity to trout fishing in the Red River. Additionally, the Columbine Trailhead is located nearby, providing direct access to pristine wilderness hikes through lush alpine forests and wildflower meadows.

Who This Park Is Best For

We only hiked through, but we definitely want to come back to camp. Beautiful fall colors and for the mile we hiked in the trail was well maintained.

I cannot say enough wonderful things about this campground. Starting with the hosts: Roger and Gwen are one in a million! They clearly take pride in this campground. It is immaculate! They were so helpful and available whenever we needed help. They are fantastic. The campground is so peaceful. There is some road noise but the views are beyond compare. My favorite thing? The hummingbirds! I’ve never seen so many in my life! What a treat. This is an amazing campground. We can’t wait to visit again!

Beautiful views of the canyon walls. A small stream flows through the center of the campground providing some nice white noise in the background. Well kept picnic tables and fire rings. The camp hosts were very welcoming and had firewood for sale at their site. You can clearly hear cars on the highway as they pass by (to be expected at the sites at the front of the campground), but they are not that frequent. Probably not an issue toward the back. There is hiker parking for the Columbine trail at the trailhead. Multiple pot toilets and drinking water faucets around the campground, a short walk from any site.
