The beach here is incredible! The sand is soft and great for kids, and the area is large even if it’s crowded you will find a spot. Parking is close and there are 2 porta potties. Theres a designated roped off swim area where you don’t need a life vest, but paddle boards are not allowed. Outside the swim area, life vests are required and you can have paddle boards. There is a large no wake zone outside the swim beach which is great for learning to paddleboard. The water temperature is amazing. There is zero shade on the beach so keep that in mind when packing. There are lots of rocks in the water once you get in so I would also recommend some kind of water shoe. The water was so clean, especially compared to Cherry Creek Reservoir or Chatfield, it’s one of the best lakes we have been to without having to drive over an hour from Denver or go up I70. We will definitely be back!

My husband took me here for Labor Day weekend so we could go paddleboarding. This lake is so big and beautiful. We went on a 2 hour hike. The hike is easy enough but it is very rocky so watch your step. Ive heard there is so much wildlife to see. We didn't see any because it was a very rainy day. When we went the water temp was about 71° and absolutely wonderful. What i love about this lake is that the water is clear and you done leave smelling like a swampy fish. Definitely will be back, especially with it only costing $10

Nice lake, but not for fishing. Too much loud recreational boating and paddle boarders. Makes me wonder why they stock it 🤔

Drive out to Carter Lake two weekends in a row. The first time as part of a classic car rally, the second weekend my wife and I drove out early to fish. Was blown away by how beautiful the lake was both times. Even the bathroom at the swimming beach was clean. Definitely worth the drive to visit whether you live here like I do, or if you're visiting from our off state
