Cascade Caverns & Campground

Overview

Cascade Caverns & Campground offers a unique blend of subterranean exploration and Hill Country relaxation. This historic 1932 attraction provides a quiet base for travelers who want more than just a place to park. The centerpiece is the living cavern, where visitors can descend into a world of limestone formations and ancient fossils just steps from their RV door. It is a peaceful retreat that captures the natural beauty of the region while offering a glimpse into Texas geological history.

Location & Surroundings

Situated on the outskirts of Boerne, Texas, the park is nestled within 105 acres of lush Texas Hill Country terrain. The surrounding landscape is dominated by native oaks and rugged limestone outcroppings, providing a serene environment that feels worlds away from the city. Its strategic proximity to Interstate 10 makes it easily accessible for travelers while maintaining a secluded, heavily wooded atmosphere that dampens highway noise and creates a true sanctuary for local wildlife.

Amenities & Park Features

The campground caters to various travel styles with full hookup RV sites offering 30 and 50-amp service, along with secluded primitive tent areas. Guests have access to essential facilities including climate-controlled restrooms, hot showers, and a convenient laundry room. Beyond the basics, the property features scenic nature trails for morning walks, a playground for children, and a well-stocked gift shop. The highlight remains the daily guided tours through the majestic, 64-degree caverns located right on the property.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

While the caverns are the primary draw, the nearby town of Boerne offers the charming Hill Country Mile, famous for its boutique shopping, art galleries, and local breweries. Outdoor enthusiasts can head to Boerne City Lake Park for a day of kayaking, paddleboarding, or fishing. For those seeking urban excitement or theme parks, the campground is a short drive from San Antonio, home to Six Flags Fiesta Texas and the world-famous San Antonio River Walk and Alamo mission.

Who This Park Is Best For

This destination is ideal for nature lovers and families looking for an educational and adventurous stay. It specifically appeals to RVers who prefer a quiet, rustic environment over the concrete pads of a high-traffic urban resort. If you appreciate geological wonders, birdwatching, and a peaceful night under the Texas stars, this park provides the perfect balance of discovery and rest for your next journey through the Texas Hill Country.

So, y’all. My wife and I had hadn’t even heard of Cascade Caverns, we but saw a sign for it as we passed through Boerne. We’ve enjoyed a few other caverns (Carlsbad, Inner Space, and Natural Bridge) so we decided to visit on a whim. Cascade Caverns is a bit off the beaten path but well worth the visit. The staff are friendly and very knowledgeable. My wife and I arrived early enough to get our own private tour. Our tour guide, Ireland, was great and you could tell she really enjoyed her job and cared about the cavern’s preservation. Ireland encouraged and happily answered our questions. She took the time to ensure we remained safe. One of the great things about Cascade Caverns is that it retains much of its “natural” state, allowing visitors to navigate using flashlights. This makes the cavern tour feel more personal and individualized, a bit like you are exploring the cave by yourself.

If you’re looking to go spelunking with the best tour guides in the business, this is your place to be! The guide for our tour was very informative, and answered all questions posed to them by active children and adults. There are, however, several steps going down into the cave, and, of course, coming back up out of the cave. Some people may need to rest a bit on the way up, as going back outside, the heat hits like a wall in Texas. There is an area where you will have to crouch, and you will need to watch where you are going. Stalagmites and stalactites are clearly visible, and sometimes there are small cave-dwelling bats and salamanders.

Cascade Caverns was a lot of fun! Our tour guide "Stingray" was great; he was funny, well-informed, and genuinely fascinating. He made the tour entertaining and educational from start to finish. The actual cave is breathtaking, with remarkable rock formations and a refreshingly chilly atmosphere. For children of all ages, it is a great hobby and a unique chance to learn about nature. Seeing Cascade Caverns is an absolute must, especially when "Stingray" is your guide!

We had a wonderful experience during our visit. Our guide, Sebastian, was not only humorous but also highly knowledgeable, which greatly enhanced the tour. I was particularly impressed by how easily accessible and navigable the cavern was, and appreciated that it felt far less commercialized compared to other sites—specifically, I found this experience to be far superior to Carlsbad. I felt safe, well-informed, and that the experience was truly worth the cost. The atmosphere was relaxed, without overcrowding, and individual attention was given when questions were asked. The rock shop offered a remarkable variety of items that were genuinely worth browsing (i.e. stones) , and the opportunity to purchase a bag and pan for stones outdoors added a fun and interactive element. Overall, we had an absolute blast and will definitely be returning.
