Displays in the riverfront Marine Park explain the 19th-century locks that made the turbulent Columbia passable (and gave Cascade Locks its name). In nearby Hood River, the Mount Hood Railroad links the Columbia Gorge with the foothills of snowcapped Mount Hood. We stayed here for the first time this week, and it was fantastic. Deluxe cabins are cozy, very clean, and well-equipped. Very close to town with easy access to highways and the interstate, and an excellent base for exploring the Columbia Gorge. As others have said, there are a LOT of trains close to the campground - but that’s going to be the case in most places along the Gorge. We brought earplugs and had no issues with being woken up between about 10:30 PM - 6 AM.
