Castle Rock Park (Adams County Park)

Overview

Castle Rock Park, managed by Adams County, serves as a premier destination for those looking to experience the natural beauty of Central Wisconsin. Situated on the shores of the state’s fourth-largest inland lake, this expansive 160-acre park offers a blend of wooded privacy and waterfront access. It provides a classic camping atmosphere where the focus remains on the great outdoors and traditional lakefront recreation. The park is a popular summer staple for travelers seeking a balance between relaxation and active water sports.

Location & Surroundings

Located in Friendship, WI, the park is nestled within a landscape of towering pines and sandy soil characteristic of the region. The primary draw is Castle Rock Lake, a massive reservoir on the Wisconsin River that provides miles of shoreline to explore. The surrounding area is relatively quiet, offering a peaceful retreat from more commercialized tourist hubs while remaining easily accessible via regional highways. The lake’s presence creates a cool, breezy microclimate that is particularly refreshing during the peak of summer.

Amenities & Park Features

RV travelers will find well-maintained sites equipped with electric and water hookups, though most sites do not offer on-site sewer. The park features a large sandy swimming beach, a designated boat launch area, and several fishing piers for public use. Comfort is maintained through centrally located shower buildings, modern restrooms, and a convenient dump station for self-contained rigs to use before departure. Children often frequent the on-site playground, while families enjoy the various picnic areas scattered throughout the grounds.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

While the lake offers world-class fishing for walleye and bass, guests can also explore Roche-A-Cri State Park, which is famous for its ancient petroglyphs and a wooden stairway leading to a panoramic rock overlook. Those seeking high-energy entertainment are only a short thirty-minute drive from the Wisconsin Dells, the waterpark capital of the world. Additionally, the region is a gateway to extensive ATV and UTV trail systems that wind through the county, providing plenty of land-based adventure for those with off-road vehicles.

Who This Park Is Best For

This park is an exceptional choice for boating enthusiasts and families who prioritize water activities like tubing, skiing, or fishing. It appeals to travelers who prefer a rustic, scenic environment over a paved resort-style setting. If you value a spacious campsite under a canopy of trees and direct access to the water, this county park is an ideal fit. It is perfect for those who want to be close to the action of the Dells while staying in a quieter, more budget-friendly natural setting.

Nice little campground. There is water and electric hook up which is nice. Clean restrooms and shower rooms. There is a little beach and a nice boat launch with docking - the launch and docking is a little cove away from the main water which is very nice to have as the water can because aggressive. I would recommend if looking to get away for a few days.

I have been coming here with my family since I was little, and now I come here with my son too so well over 20 years. This has always been one of the nicer campgrounds in the area with very friendly staff, they offer a variety of extended times to rent out a spot although the options for seasonal or year round are not what they used to be. Camping spots are large and plenty of space to park multiple vehicles and still move about, their beach is always maintained, and the views of the lake are always nice.

I have been camping here since I was 5 years old and still camp here. The fun never ends. This county park is a great place to camp, especially for kids. It has a nice boat launch with a harbor, swim area and a playground. Staff are very kind and always willing to help, and the campground host is very friendly. Overall, this campground is one of the best I believe along the lake.

Loved our stay here! Nice big RV sites. Great little swimming beach and perfect sunsets over the lake. Fun 3-mile bicycle to a dam too!

Lovely quiet campground. We stayed in the group site, which had a large fire pit and lots of room for everyone. The view of the lake and nesting Ospreys with their fledglings was an awesome added bonus. The showers lost hot water pretty quickly if you didn't get one in early. The pit toliet by us was clean but didn't have much ventilation besides leaving the door open during the day. Other than that I have nothing but positives to say about this place. Well maintained. Nice staff. Dog friendly. Nice Playground and little beach. Dry firewood. Definitely will be back.
