Catalina

RV Park

Overview

Overview

Catalina State Park serves as a premier destination for RVers looking to experience the raw beauty of the Sonoran Desert. Located at the base of the majestic Santa Catalina Mountains, this park offers a unique opportunity to camp surrounded by towering saguaro cacti and dramatic desert landscapes. The campground is designed to provide an authentic outdoor experience, focusing on natural beauty rather than typical resort-style luxury amenities.

Location & Surroundings

Situated on the northern edge of the Tucson metropolitan area, the park acts as a gateway to both urban convenience and rugged wilderness. You are positioned within the Santa Catalina Mountains foothills, providing stunning sunrise and sunset views. While the park feels secluded in the heart of the desert, it remains just a short drive from the northern amenities of Tucson, making it ideal for those who value mountain scenery without sacrificing proximity to modern supplies and services.

Amenities & Park Features

The campground offers well-maintained sites that accommodate a variety of RV sizes, each featuring electric and water hookups for convenience. Visitors have access to clean restrooms and hot showers located throughout the campground loops. The park is highly regarded for its paved RV pads and picnic tables, allowing for comfortable outdoor dining. Guests should note that while there are no full sewer hookups at individual sites, a convenient dump station is available for use.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Outdoor enthusiasts will find endless opportunities for recreation directly from the campsite. The park features an extensive network of hiking and equestrian trails that wind through canyons and lush desert vegetation. Birdwatchers are often found near the park’s riparian zones, which serve as a critical habitat for diverse species. Additionally, the proximity to the city allows for easy day trips to explore local museums, the University of Arizona, and the historic downtown district of Tucson.

Who This Park Is Best For

This park is best suited for nature lovers, hikers, and those who prefer a peaceful desert retreat over a high-density resort environment. It is perfect for travelers who want to disconnect and spend their days on the trail or capturing landscape photography. If your travel style prioritizes quiet nights under the stars and immediate trail access over swimming pools and clubhouse activities, Catalina State Park will serve as a perfect home base for your Arizona adventures.

Great little state park with lots of great hiking trails and picnic areas. Two big campgrounds with water and electric Rv hookups as well. No sewer but there is a dump on site. Entrance has a gift shop too which is a plus.

Friendly, clean, easily accessible and beautiful location. Everything you want from a camp ground. It’s not particularly close to the heart of Tucson though, if that is what you are desiring. I wish we’d had more time to check out the park itself with hiking and such. The hook ups to dump the grey and black water in the park where basic but did the trick.

Beautiful Arizona state park with wonderful hiking trails. Campsites with water & electric, dump stations, very nice bathrooms/showers. Been coming here for several years ... just really love this park. Nice shopping & restaurants just across Oracle Road from the park.

Beautiful state park. Even though the yearly pass is pricey at 200$, it's worth it if you're a regular here. Has some of the best trails in all of Tucson, just wish they would signpost them a bit better, and maybe incorporate some of the unofficial trails. The volunteers have all been amazing, and I love the different events that they host, especially the nature program on Saturday morning, and their music by the mountains. They could improve by cleaning their toilets more often and maybe build another set of toilets by the Alamo canyon trail parking lot. Just watch out for the wildlife and be aware of your surroundings, and I'm sure you'll have an amazing time.

February 2026 - People get pretty excited about this State Park. Hiking and scenery is excellent! Spacious campsites and quiet? Go “anywhere” else. This State Park calls the Ringtail Camping Loop “Rustic” - I call it BS!!! Ringtail is a dirt overflow lot period. Campers packed in like sardines in a can. Shame on Catalina. You should remove half the sites in Ringtail and manage it. Another example of the money hungry State Park System. Generators allowed 8am-8pm!!! People start the generators early and the hosts do nothing. The exhaust stinks and the noise is obnoxious. The retirees love this campground because restaurants, Walmart and Petco are across the street (Oracle) LOL. We have traveled a LOT. This is not our idea of camping. Again, hiking is beautiful, just know what you are booking.
