We stayed here for two nights in Aug 2025. No campground host around. Site 8 gets full afternoon sun and is great if you need solar; otherwise it’s really hot. It was too gusty to put awning out so we roasted in the afternoon. It cooled off nicely at night. The biggest drawback is the highway noise, big trucks passing right out the night. The site pads are paved which is nice because some other campgrounds in the area are not. The location is great if you want to spend time in the area to explore Lassen NP, Burney Falls, Subway Cave. If you want a great panorama view (and sunset) I recommend a short drive to the Hat Creek Rim Scenic Viewpoint; this is also an area that you will pick up a good cell signal if needed.

Needed to spend a night on the way to Lake Tahoe. To our big surprise all restrooms were shot closed with plywood because there is no camp host. We went to bathroom across the street at Subway Cave trailhead. Only giving 2 stars because place is not bag, has very nice trail by the river. But with no host & no toilets might as well just camp in the wild behind the river for free. There is a bridge right before the campground if you traveling from north side.

Nice campgrounds next to highway. We were camped at site 25, so traffic noise wasn't bad at all. Hiking is really good in the area. Be sure to check out Subway Cave nearby and the Spatter Cone Trail. Hat Creek was nice, pretty cool, but signs state no wading and such. Fishing was very slow, but they do stock from time to time. Camp host was great 👍

The camp ground is well maintained and clean. There are vault toilets as well as one bathroom with flush toilets. It is right near the highway so expect to hear traffic. The nicer sites are closest to the creek. I would assume the sound of the creek would drown out the sound of the freeway. The birds and chipmunks are accustomed to visitors. Keep an eye out or they will hop in your vehicle/trailer if you leave the door open too long. Great fishing in the creek. Saw many people coming out with full stringers. A lot of traffic in and out. Many folks stopped to use the restroom as the rest area down the road was already closed for the season. Only rated a 3 due to closeness to the highway and traffic using the restroom.

This is a great Campground! Super clean, nice sites, fresh, clean bathrooms. Every campsite is so picturesque. Right on hat creek too. We caught trout everyday! And the Lava cave is a short walk across the way. We had lots of chipmunks hanging out with us too. They come right up your leg and eat Peanuts in your lap! Lots of fun for outdoor lovers!

Killer old campground next to Hat Creek how can you go wrong. Even though flush bathroom was out of order & the campground host site was cluttered and unsightly it was quiet, beautiful and the fishing is always amazing. Best part was watching some kids catch their first stream fish or maybe first fish for that matter. Going back soon!

Clean and well kept. Campground host seem to have it all under control.

Best place I’ve ever been. Started going with my Dad in the late 70’s. It’s now a family tradition with son and best friends and the wives and children 💕❣️
