Cedar Bluff (Page Creek Area)
Overview
Cedar Bluff State Park is a premier destination for outdoor enthusiasts in western Kansas, with the Page Creek Area serving as its quieter, more natural counterpart. Located on the southern shore of the reservoir, this area is defined by its dramatic limestone bluffs and wide-open prairie vistas. It provides a peaceful retreat for those looking to immerse themselves in the rugged beauty of the High Plains while still enjoying the convenience of designated RV sites near the water's edge.
Location & Surroundings
Nestled south of Ellis and Ogallah, the Page Creek Area is surrounded by the expansive shortgrass prairie characteristic of the region. The park’s most striking feature is the 100-foot-tall limestone cliffs that overlook the reservoir. This location offers a sense of isolation and tranquility, making it a stark contrast to more developed lakeside parks. Travelers will appreciate the unobstructed horizon views that make for some of the most vibrant sunsets in the state.
Amenities & Park Features
While the North Shore is more developed, Page Creek offers essential comforts within a rustic environment. The park features campsites equipped with water and electricity, as well as numerous primitive options for those seeking a boondocking experience. Key facilities include convenient boat ramps, vault toilets, and a dump station. The sites are generally well-spaced, providing RVers with the privacy needed to enjoy the sounds of the local wildlife and the gentle lapping of the reservoir.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
The reservoir is a primary draw for seasonal fishing, specifically for walleye, crappie, and white bass. Beyond the water, visitors can explore the Threshing Machine Canyon, a historic site with carvings dating back to the mid-1800s. The surrounding hills are perfect for wildlife viewing, where mule deer and wild turkeys are frequently spotted. For a touch of local history, the nearby town of Ellis offers charming museums and the childhood home of Walter P. Chrysler.
Who This Park Is Best For
Page Creek is ideal for RVers who prioritize peace and quiet over commercial amenities. It is a haven for anglers and boaters who want direct access to the water without the crowds. Nature photographers and stargazers will find the minimal light pollution and unique geological formations particularly inspiring. If your travel style leans toward self-contained adventuring and appreciating the great outdoors in its purest form, this park is a must-visit stop.

Sweet place. I stayed in the Apache non-designated area and only saw a couple other people. Right by the lake, picnic table, quiet. I could hear a generator across on the north side of the reservoir but otherwise it was just owls and crickets. Pronghorn shower house was clean, had hot water, and in good shape. Some bugs last night, but none biting. 1-3 bars of Verizon, depending on where you stood. For $13/night, not bad!
