Cedar Springs Ranch

Overview

Cedar Springs Ranch offers a serene getaway nestled within the dense forests of the Malahat mountain range on Vancouver Island. Unlike the busy urban parks near Victoria, this destination provides a more rustic and tranquil environment where the sound of the wind through the trees replaces highway noise. It serves as an ideal base for travelers who appreciate being surrounded by nature while remaining within a short drive of the capital city.

Location & Surroundings

Situated just off the Trans-Canada Highway, the park is perched in the scenic Malahat region, known for its dramatic elevation and sweeping views of the Saanich Inlet. The surroundings are characterized by towering evergreens and mossy terrain, offering a true West Coast atmosphere. While the drive up the mountain involves some steep grades, the reward is a secluded mountain setting that feels worlds away from the city.

Amenities & Park Features

The facility provides essential services designed to make a stay in the woods comfortable. Guests can expect a variety of site options including both back-in and pull-through configurations. Key amenities include:

  • Full hookup sites including water, power, and sewer connections.
  • Access to clean laundry facilities and heated washrooms.
  • Private fire rings and picnic tables at each site.

These features ensure that while you are deep in the forest, you still have the modern conveniences necessary for a multi-day stay.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Outdoor enthusiasts will find plenty to explore nearby, starting with the Malahat SkyWalk, which offers an accessible spiral ramp with panoramic views. Just a short drive away, Goldstream Provincial Park provides world-class hiking trails and salmon runs during the autumn months. For those looking for culture and dining, the vibrant downtown area of Victoria is easily accessible for a day trip.

Who This Park Is Best For

This park is best suited for nature lovers and independent travelers who prefer a quiet, wooded atmosphere over a resort-style experience. It is an excellent choice for those seeking a peaceful home base while touring the diverse landscapes of southern Vancouver Island. If you value privacy, fresh mountain air, and a relaxed pace of life, this ranch offers the perfect coastal forest retreat.

We booked this campsite for tenting with friends over a long weekend. The tent sites turned out to be small and dark, and firewood was not allowed even though there was no fire ban. When I raised these concerns politely with the owner and mentioned we would reflect our experience in reviews, his son later told us to leave. The interaction was rude and aggressive, and instead of addressing our concerns we were spoken to in a way that felt insulting and very unprofessional. Our $200 deposit was initially withheld, though after disputing the charge we did receive it back. Also fortunately, we were able to find another campsite for the weekend that suited us much better. I later noticed that many other reviewers have described similarly negative experiences with the management, which reflects what we went through. Based on both the site conditions and the way we were treated, I cannot recommend this campground. Update: regarding your strange answer, you forced us to book 3 campsites for 10 people (which later was reduced to 8) and still each one was small, dark and without fire-pit which is very important. In normal campsites usually up to 6 people are allowed in 1 site. But this is not the main issue. The issue is your unprofessional attitude toward your customers and later claiming “they” are taking advantage from you.

Great campground all around! We used a tenting site and paid the bit extra for power and water and it was so worth it. The prices are so good for all the amenities. Washrooms are clean and have free showers, plus there’s a big sink basin and coin laundry. The office has ice to buy and a bunch of extra stuff. There’s a pool, and yet you’re actually camping in the forest still. The owner/host is so welcoming and friendly. If you’ve got kids, they’ve got cool stuff for them too. The cedar springs ranch has everything you need!

We stayed here for two nights in the 2-bedroom bunkhouse. Overall a comfortable site to stay in. The owner / staff were nice. The environment was peaceful. Very few mosquitoes around. There were some maintenance work needed to be done (e.g. urinals / toilets in the washroom, blinds in the bunkhouse).

We stayed for 3 nights at the Cedar Springs Ranch RV park. The campground was very nice and had such a good family feel to it. There were lots of fun things for children to do within the park and all of the families looked like they wete greatly enjoying themselves. We had been travelling for some time so we greatly appreciated the laundry facilities. The washrooms and showers were in good shape but after a busy weekend they needed some extra TLC... On arrival we were greeted warmly and given a tour of the facilities. People kept to the 10 PM quiet time. The store was very convenient and had a good variety of items. The owners seem to be expanding and adding more areas for campers. It is a lovely place.

We stayed here for an extended period and it was an overall great experience. Family run, family oriented park where the owner goes out of their way to take care of the campers, short and long term. All the amenities you could need, and laundry is a great price. Great trails just across the tracks as well. Everyone is wonderful to deal with, I miss them already!
