Centennial Park
Overview
Centennial Park serves as a premier destination for travelers looking to experience the heart of the Kenai Peninsula. Managed by the City of Soldotna, this expansive park is famous for its world-class fishing access and lush, wooded surroundings. With over 170 campsites available, it offers a blend of convenience and natural beauty that captures the essence of an Alaskan summer. Whether you are here to fill your freezer with salmon or simply enjoy the riverside atmosphere, the park provides a reliable basecamp for all types of northern adventures.
Location & Surroundings
Situated directly on the banks of the legendary Kenai River, the park is located just minutes from the main thoroughfare of Soldotna. Despite its proximity to town, the dense forest canopy provides a sense of seclusion and wilderness. The elevated boardwalks and river access points allow visitors to safely navigate the terrain while protecting the sensitive shoreline. You will find yourself surrounded by towering spruce trees and the constant, rhythmic flow of one of the world's most productive salmon rivers.
Amenities & Park Features
The park caters specifically to the needs of self-contained RVers and campers. It features dedicated fish cleaning stations located along the riverfront to accommodate the daily catch. While many sites are designed for dry camping, there are several loops offering electric hookups for those needing power. Essential facilities include:
- Access to a well-maintained dump station and potable water fill.
- Clean restrooms and hot shower facilities for guests.
- An on-site boat launch for immediate river access.
- Picnic tables and fire rings at every individual site.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
Beyond the immediate thrill of the river, the surrounding area is a hub for outdoor recreation. The Kenai National Wildlife Refuge is just a short drive away, offering miles of hiking trails and wildlife viewing opportunities. In Soldotna, you can explore local craft breweries, gear shops, and the Soldotna Creek Park which hosts summer concerts and markets. For those willing to drive further, the scenic Seward Highway and the coastal charms of Homer are easily accessible day trips from this central location.
Who This Park Is Best For
This park is an absolute haven for avid anglers who want to step from their RV directly onto a fishing platform. It is also an ideal choice for families looking for a structured environment with a playground and easy access to town services. If you enjoy a bustling community atmosphere during the peak of the fishing season, you will find the energy here infectious. It is best suited for travelers who appreciate being at the center of the action while still having the comforts of a managed municipal park.

This spot is beautiful for fishing, but the running of the park is very confusing. We found out that we were double charged after the first week of paying for the car AND the RV which was kind of a bummer. We finally found a camping spot after the weekend, and were able to move from the overflow parking lot (same price and very tight) to the actual site. Overall, great memories were made!

Stopped in to take a look at the campground on an off day as we were thinking of camping there in the future. The gentleman at the gate was kind and told us his boss does not allow people to drive through the campground at all, even to check it out. You won't have to worry about us camping there anytime in the future.

July12,2024.We stayed two nights This campground next to the Kenai River is very large. It can accommodate both Type A and Type B trailers. It has a beautiful environment and complete facilities. It has water and electricity. Each vehicle costs $30 per night. It's great for people who like salmon fishing. It takes two minutes to walk to the river. The water is clean and there are dedicated stairs to enter the river. The river is very fast, so be careful when fishing here and pay attention to safety👍👍👍

It's a first come, first pick campground so we drove around for about 5 minutes finding our perfect spot. It's a comfortable and safe environment, it wasn't loud, everyone was kind and nice and minded their own business. We loved our experience at this campground. We were also able to go to the kenai River just a couple minutes away from our tent.
