Challis Hot Springs & RV Park

Overview

Challis Hot Springs & RV Park offers a unique blend of historical charm and natural relaxation along the banks of the Salmon River. Established as a family-owned destination in the late 1800s, this park is centered around its natural mineral hot springs. Travelers are drawn to the soothing properties of the outdoor pools, which are maintained at varying temperatures to accommodate both active swimmers and those looking for a deep soak. The atmosphere is peaceful and unhurried, reflecting the slower pace of rural Idaho life.

Location & Surroundings

Situated in the majestic Round Valley of central Idaho, the park is framed by the rugged peaks of the Salmon-Challis National Forest. The site sits directly adjacent to the Salmon River, providing a cooling contrast to the thermal springs. At an elevation of approximately 5,000 feet, visitors enjoy clear mountain air and wide-open sky views. The surrounding landscape is a high-desert environment where sagebrush hills meet lush river bottoms, offering a picturesque backdrop for every RV site.

Amenities & Park Features

The park provides a range of accommodations including full hookup RV sites and spacious pull-through spots designed for larger rigs. Beyond the utility connections, the primary draw remains the two distinct soaking pools fed by artesian springs. Guests have access to private river access for fishing or cooling off during the summer months. Practical amenities include clean restrooms, hot showers, and a laundry facility, ensuring a comfortable stay for those on extended road trips through the Idaho wilderness.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Outdoor recreation is the primary highlight of this region. Just a short drive away, the Land of the Yankee Fork State Park offers a glimpse into Idaho’s mining history with interpretive centers and trails. Anglers frequently visit the area for world-class steelhead and trout fishing in the Salmon River. For those interested in local lore, the Custer Ghost Town provides a well-preserved look at 19th-century life, while the surrounding national forest offers endless miles of hiking and wildlife viewing opportunities.

Who This Park Is Best For

This destination is ideal for travelers who value wellness and relaxation over high-speed resort amenities. It is a perfect fit for history enthusiasts and retirees looking for a quiet basecamp to explore central Idaho. Because of its proximity to the river and historic sites, it also appeals to outdoor adventurers and families who enjoy traditional camping activities like fishing and soaking. If you prefer a rustic, scenic environment with genuine natural features, this park will suit your travel style perfectly.

What a relaxing peaceful place, clean and well kept. Friendly staff, and we happened to have the whole pool to ourselves for 2+ hrs on a Thursday afternoon. Highly recommended to visit

First time making it this far up Idaho the state is amazing. Fell in love with this place right here the drive coming in and out just breath taking. Site and pools are all A1. We got a camp spot right along the creek where water is flowing warm. Just something felt unsettling about checking in and leaving as well. Had some friendly fellow campers but the female host who checked us in just maybe was having a bad day? Left a weird vibe for the stay. Look forward to visiting again though. Will for sure recommend to all my friends in family from California.

Pools are clean and well maintained. The temps in them are pretty much perfect for soaking or just enjoying the pool. The campground is very well played out and quite a good size. We loved staying there, will definitely go back!
