Overview

Located in the scenic foothills of the Umpqua National Forest, Charles V Stanton Park offers a well-maintained retreat for travelers passing through Southern Oregon. This Douglas County park serves as a bridge between the convenience of Interstate 5 and the tranquil beauty of the South Umpqua River. It provides a peaceful atmosphere where the natural landscape takes center stage, making it a favorite for both overnight stops and longer stays for those exploring the Pacific Northwest.

Location & Surroundings

Situated just north of Canyonville, the park is nestled along a bend in the river, providing campers with easy access to the waterfront. The surrounding landscape features the rolling hills and dense evergreen forests typical of the region. While the park is remarkably close to local services and entertainment, its position tucked away from the main road ensures that visitors enjoy a sense of natural seclusion while remaining connected to essential transit routes and the nearby town center.

The campground is designed with modern RV needs in mind, featuring sites equipped with full hookups including water, sewer, and electricity. The layout is spacious, offering paved pads that accommodate a variety of rig sizes. On-site facilities include clean restrooms and showers, as well as a convenient laundry room for long-haul travelers. Each site is outfitted with a sturdy picnic table and a fire ring, encouraging guests to enjoy the fresh Oregon air and evening campfires under the stars.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Outdoor enthusiasts will appreciate the direct access to the South Umpqua River for fishing and swimming during the warmer months. Just a short drive away, the Seven Feathers Casino Resort offers gaming, dining, and live entertainment for those seeking a change of pace. Additionally, the park serves as an excellent base camp for exploring the nearby wineries of the Umpqua Valley or taking a scenic day trip into the deeper reaches of the national forest for hiking and wildlife viewing.

Who This Park Is Best For

This park is an ideal fit for I-5 road trippers looking for a higher quality experience than a standard roadside stop. It appeals to families who enjoy river-based recreation and retirees seeking a quiet, clean, and accessible home base near Canyonville. This is a well-maintained park that offers an enchanting environment for a few days of chilling by the campsite; the river provides a soothing backdrop and the well-planned landscape creates an ambiance of warmth. The staff is nice too. They keep the camp clean and join you by the campfire in the evening to enjoy nature's medicines with you (just make sure they walk; one of the times the camphost asked us to drive her back, we had to decline naturally). So whether you stay one night, or a whole week, Stanton Park is sure to please (just remember to bring your own coffee, it's really expensive in the stores nearby!).

Very quiet campground along the river. There is freeway noise from I-5, however camp site are well spaced and still felt private. Because the upper part of the campground is being rebuilt, it looks closed at first glance from the street. The lower part is open to tent and RV camping. Even though there were a couple reservations, there was plenty of drop-in sites available for a couple nights of stay. The bathroom and free shower are very clean. The camp host, Kristie, will give you the access code to the shower. She made me feel welcome the moment I arrived. She is one of the best reasons to return to the camp ground on my next trip north and back. The lower camp ground has easy access to the river. There's a young bald eagle hunting in the area and the river is great for cooling down and rock collecting.

I wanted to give them a better star rating but no, not this visit. We booked a site (*months ago) in the *back section of the new & improved park. The problem? The new & improved section was not finished. No play area, no horseshoe pits. The park is nice and has lots of green space to enjoy. Easy access to the river too. **BUT there is constant, LOUD noise from the hi-way - think jake-breaks when you’re trying to sleep. My husband thought our site would better than the last time we were here - yet it was so much worse. We had ZERO shade and tons of hi way and frontage road noise. I couldn’t wait to get home to get some sleep. Christy, the park manager is a kind, professional woman, who makes sure fellow campers are following the rules. We would never stay in this particular spot and would advise anyone against it. Perhaps when the new section is actually finished - we will return. See (hear) video.

always our go to potty stop on our drive through Oregon. It's well lit, clean environment. There are plenty of picnic tables that are covered to eat lunch at to stretch your legs. I used the restroom and they had zero smell and freshly cleaned. All the garbage cans were empty and none were overflowing. There was ample car, truck and rv parking. I love the added touch of the hanging flower baskets under the light posts. There was working vending machines also. The dog park was clean and inviting saw a few people use.

It was quite cold. The river is beautiful and we had a good time watching the water and the ducks. Great camping park lots of room and play area for kids. Good place for wading fishing swimming. Seen a rope in a tree that looks like fun. Gold panning could be fun.
