Charlottesville KOA Holiday

Thomas Jefferson's magnificent Monticello is a big draw here, and so is the woodsy Charlottesville KOA.

Thomas Jefferson's magnificent Monticello is a big draw here, and so is the woodsy Charlottesville KOA in the Blue Ridge Mountain foothills, where dogwoods bloom in spring and hardwoods blaze with brilliant fall colors. It's just a half hour to Skyline Drive and the Blue Ridge Parkway for stunning vistas, hiking trails, cave tours and waterfalls. Visit a trio of historic sites: Monticello, Highland (home of James Monroe) and Michie Tavern, where a costumed staff serves an 18th-century lunch. Also, take a tour of Jefferson's lovely University of Virginia campus and Walton's Mountain Museum, which recreates some of the real John Boy's life. Try tubing and rafting on the nearby James River, enjoy a wine tasting at a local vineyard or dine in downtown Charlottesville. Back at KOA, enjoy the pool, sports field, game room, pond or relax and listen to nature at your site. Pool: Memorial Weekend - Labor Day Weekend. Max pull thru: 65 feet.

Wonderful campgroundn in the Fall. BEAUTIFUL colors on the trees and the nature walk around the campground is very enjoyable and beautiful. Campsites were good gravel and level enough. If arriving with a large vehicle, be sure to take the road so that you are turning right into the driveway (come in from the east, following route 20). My GPS regularly routed me from the other direction (along rout 631), when driving from Cville, and that road is narrower and much more twisty - a little more challenging and nerve wracking with my 30' motorhome.

Great location and stay. We were in Spot 20 from Friday to Sunday. My only comments relate to entry into the campground off of Red Hill Rd when approaching from Scottsville Rd. There should be a yellow traffic sign(s) indicating: 1) there’s an entrance on the right near the end of the “S” curve, and 2) that slow vehicles may be pulling out into traffic from this entrance (trucks pulling trailers or fifth wheels, Class As, or Class Cs). This is curvy, tree-lined road carrying large vehicles piloted by drivers of varying skill. Signage will improve traffic safety.

The Charlottesville KOA is located near the beautiful Shenandoah National Park- about 30 minutes away and the city of Charlottesville about 20 minutes. The park itself is clean. A little unkempt in regards to mowing, but it was end of September. The sites are very close together, like most KOA’s. The pool was not open, even though it was warm. We had a nice pull through gravel site. The driveway going in is paved along with the roundabout by the office. There was laundry available. The dryers charge you $1.50, but didn’t dry thoroughly. I prefer the ones that you have to add minutes with a quarter or .50 cents. There was a game room with a decent variety of games. Pool, foosball, air hockey and some board games. The nature path was nice and a good hike. Does need a little maintenance, but enjoyed the walk! The dog park is a little small, but was clean. Not sure it’s worth over $80/night, but we appreciated the location.

This is a great KOA. Excellent location to Monticello. Large pitches. We had full hook up. The lady was lovely and gave us a choice of pitch, we chose some shade. It was perfect. The pool is really big and deep, compared to other camp grounds it's massive and we loved it. My boys 12 and 14 had a blast in it, as did I as I could actually swim. Bouncy pillow also a hit. Basketball hoop. Nice shop and games room. Washroom spotless. WiFi Excellent which is a massive boon for us. Campground has a relaxing feel and we loved our stay, peaceful and we felt safe. Highly recommend.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5/5 Stars Had a wonderful stay at the Charlottesville KOA! It's a very quiet and laid back atmosphere. The staff here are genuinely friendly and helpful, which always makes a difference. One of the standout features is the generous lot sizes - they're huge compared to most campgrounds we've stayed at, giving you plenty of space to spread out and feel comfortable. The bathhouse was impressively clean. They do have a nature trail on the property, which is a nice feature, though it could use a bit more maintenance as it's gotten a little unkempt in places. One heads up for future visitors: the road leading to the campground is very winding, and the entrance comes up suddenly. Be prepared to slow down and keep an eye out for it. There's really no place to turn around if you miss the entrance. Overall, highly recommend this KOA for anyone looking for a peaceful camping experience with excellent facilities and friendly service.
