Chemin-A-Haut
Overview
Chemin-A-Haut State Park is one of Louisiana’s oldest and most scenic public spaces, originally established by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s. Translated from French as High Road, the park is perched on a high bluff overlooking the winding Bayou Bartholomew. This park offers a serene environment where the natural landscape is preserved, making it a timeless destination for travelers seeking a connection with Louisiana’s rich outdoor history. It provides a peaceful alternative to modern concrete resorts, focusing instead on the serenity of nature.
Location & Surroundings
Located just north of Bastrop, LA, the park is set within 500 acres of dense forest. The terrain is characterized by a mix of tall pines and hardwoods, providing a lush canopy that keeps the sites shaded and comfortable. The park sits at the confluence of Bayou Bartholomew and Chemin-A-Haut Creek, creating a unique water-focused landscape that feels secluded despite being easily accessible from regional highways. The surrounding area is primarily rural, emphasizing a quiet, low-traffic atmosphere.

Enjoyed our stay in the cabin and kayaking down Bartholomew river. I plan to return.

Beautiful. We walked along the river in the trail. There's also a playground and a swimming pool, cabins, all kinds of things to do. If you're 62 or older you get in for free too. We got in for free!

It's cheap to get in, clean, pools has life guards, and the workers I've dealt with are great people. Highly recommend just for the pool. Can't wait to actually have time to rent out one of the cabins for a weekend.

This is a great place! Not many people know about it except for the locals. This park has it all: playgrounds, pavilions, nature trails, fishing, cabins, and a swimming pool! If you live in Northeast Louisiana, you have to try this place. It’s a great place to bring your family and have events.

Friendly and helpful staff. Small state park but good rest spot on our way to Branson. Very outdoorsy here. Full hookups a plus for a state park. Also bath house nice and spacious.
