Chequamegon-Nicolet/Luna-White Deer
Overview
Luna-White Deer Campground offers a serene escape within the vast Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest. Located near Long Lake, Wisconsin, this destination is defined by its twin-lake setting, where campsites are nestled between the shores of Luna and White Deer Lakes. This is a traditional rustic camping experience designed for those who want to disconnect from the modern world and immerse themselves in the deep Northwoods landscape. Visitors can expect a quiet, contemplative atmosphere where the natural environment and local wildlife take center stage.
Location & Surroundings
The park is situated in a dense forest of towering hemlock and hardwood trees, providing excellent shade and natural privacy between individual sites. This unique geography places campers between two distinct bodies of water, both of which are known for their exceptional water clarity and pristine sandy bottoms. While the setting feels incredibly remote and wild, it remains accessible for RVers traveling through the scenic lake country of northern Wisconsin, specifically near the popular Three Lakes and Eagle River recreational areas.
Amenities & Park Features
As a National Forest site, the focus here is on natural beauty rather than resort-style luxuries. The park features primitive campsites equipped with heavy-duty fire rings and sturdy picnic tables for outdoor dining. While there are no electrical, water, or sewer hookups available, guests have access to well-maintained vault toilets and hand-pumped drinking water. Many sites are spacious enough to accommodate trailers and smaller motorhomes, and the park maintains a convenient boat ramp on Luna Lake for easy water access.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
Outdoor recreation is the primary draw for visitors, with the four-mile Luna-White Deer Lake Trail offering a scenic loop for hikers and birdwatchers. Anglers can enjoy productive fishing for bass and panfish, while paddlers will appreciate the tranquil, motor-free atmosphere of White Deer Lake. The surrounding national forest provides endless opportunities for wildlife viewing, nature photography, and exploring miles of backcountry forest roads that are perfect for a slow afternoon drive through the wilderness.
Who This Park Is Best For
This campground is ideal for boondocking enthusiasts and self-contained RVers who prefer natural solitude over the modern amenities of a commercial park. It is a perfect fit for families looking for a classic Northwoods experience centered on campfires and lakeside exploration. If you value a quiet environment where the calls of loons replace the hum of electricity, this secluded Wisconsin gem is an excellent choice for your next off-grid adventure.

Great quiet campground. Warm, clean lakes. Beware of the numerous biting flies.

Great campground. Camp host was great. Friendly and did a great job with the pit toilets and keeping the sites clean. There's great hiking trails accessible from the campground. The sites that border the two lakes have direct access to them. Lake has a no gas motor restriction so it makes it great for kayaks and light boats.
