Cherokee Campground

Overview

Cherokee Campground offers a quiet retreat in the heart of the North Georgia mountains. Unlike more crowded resorts, this park provides a peaceful atmosphere where the sound of the wind through the trees takes center stage. It serves as a reliable base camp for exploring the Nacoochee Valley and the surrounding peaks. Travelers often appreciate the simple, wooded layout that prioritizes nature over flashy commercial features. It is a well-maintained destination that captures the rustic charm of the Appalachian foothills.

Location & Surroundings

Situated in the historic community of Sautee Nacoochee, the campground is surrounded by the scenic beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The location is just a short drive from the bustling streets of Helen, allowing visitors to enjoy easy access to local events without the constant noise of the tourist center. The terrain is characterized by rolling hills and lush forest cover, providing plenty of shade for individual sites. It feels secluded yet remains conveniently close to local grocery stores and artisan shops.

Amenities & Park Features

The park is equipped with essential features designed for long-term comfort and short-term convenience. Guests have access to full hookup RV sites that accommodate various rig sizes, including both 30 and 50-amp electrical service. On-site facilities include a clean bathhouse and reliable laundry services, which are vital for those on extended road trips. Families can make use of the playground area, and each site typically includes a picnic table and fire ring for classic evening campfires under the stars.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Adventure is never far away when staying in this region. Visitors can explore the German-themed town of Helen, famous for its architecture, shopping, and annual Oktoberfest celebrations. Nature enthusiasts will enjoy proximity to Anna Ruby Falls and the extensive hiking trails within Unicoi State Park. For history buffs, the Hardman Farm Historic Site offers a glimpse into the state's agricultural past. Additionally, the area is home to several award-winning wineries and trout fishing spots along the Chattahoochee River.

Who This Park Is Best For

This campground is ideal for budget-conscious families and retired couples looking for a serene environment to relax and recharge. It appeals most to travelers who prefer a low-key camping experience rather than a high-activity resort vibe with constant programming. If you are a hiker or nature photographer wanting to stay near the best mountain vistas in Georgia without the premium price tag of downtown lodging, Cherokee Campground provides the perfect balance of utility and tranquility.

Phil and Pat were great host. We were having problems with our AC. Phil contacted a friend that came quickly to get it fixed. We really enjoyed our stay at Cherokee. We would stay there again in a heartbeat

This is our 3rd time in a year to come here. Pat & Phil (owners) are very nice and helpful. Their property is always clean and just off the main road. You get Water, electricity, sewer, Wi-Fi, picnic table and a firepit. There is plenty of trash/recyclable containers around the park. There is a large field to run your dogs. If you prefer a tent, they have those areas too. You are within 10 minutes to downtown Helen, also a lake to fish and/or hike. You will not be disappointed.

As others have stated, this is a great campground. Very friendly and accommodating owners. This is not resort camping - so if you're into KOA this might not be for you but it is exactly what we look for in a campground. Quiet, nice sized lots with water, power and sewer nestled in the Georgia mountains. Close to hiking trails and water falls. Beautiful skies at night time, very peaceful. They also have a playground for little ones if you're travelling with kids. I only regret that we don't have more time to stay here but we will definitely come back here when we are in the area. Thanks for a great stay.

Stayed there for 8 nights . Owners Phil and Pat were wonderful people and so nice. We came to Helen GA for the October Festival and to see the leaves changing. It was a wonderful time and a great getaway! Thanks Pat and Phil… we will be back Dan and Rebecca site 46.
