Chimney Rock RV Park
Overview
Chimney Rock RV Park serves as a scenic gateway to the recreation-rich landscape of Central Kentucky. Nestled along the shores of Herrington Lake, this park offers a mix of seasonal charm and short-term hospitality. It is designed for travelers who appreciate a slower pace of life where the focus remains on the natural beauty of the water and the surrounding limestone cliffs. The atmosphere is consistently welcoming, making it a reliable choice for those exploring the Bluegrass Region.
Location & Surroundings
Located in Harrodsburg, the oldest town in Kentucky, the park enjoys a prime position overlooking the water. The surroundings are characterized by rolling hills and dense woodlands that provide a sense of seclusion without sacrificing accessibility. Travelers will find themselves just a short distance from Chimney Rock Marina, which provides immediate access to boating and fishing. The local geography is marked by dramatic rock formations, giving the park its distinctive name and a unique visual backdrop.
Amenities & Park Features
The park is equipped to handle modern rigs while maintaining a classic camping feel. Guests have access to various features designed for convenience:
- Full hookup sites with 30 and 50-amp electrical service.
- Clean bathhouse facilities and on-site laundry services.
- Spacious sites with concrete or gravel pads and shade trees.
Each spot typically includes a fire ring and picnic table, encouraging evening gatherings under the stars. The layout is designed to facilitate easy navigation for many different RV classes and sizes.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
Beyond the lake, the local area is steeped in history and culture. Visitors often spend time at Old Fort Harrod State Park, where living history interpreters bring the 18th-century frontier to life. For a deeper look into regional heritage, the Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill is a short drive away. Of course, the proximity to the water means that boat rentals and fishing are the primary draws, with the lake being a popular spot for catching bass and crappie.
Who This Park Is Best For
This destination is ideal for boating enthusiasts who want to maximize their time on the water. Because of its quiet and community-focused environment, it also appeals to retirees and couples looking for a peaceful retreat near historic landmarks. If you are an RVer who prefers natural lakefront settings over flashy resort amenities, this park fits your travel style perfectly. It serves as an excellent home base for families wanting to combine outdoor recreation with educational trips to historic Kentucky sites.

Wow. Chimney rock is a true gem! We have visited this park twice this summer with our 2 small dogs and loved every minute of it. The new owners are so nice. They live on site and maintain the grounds meticulously. The park is quiet, the other campers are friendly and it has a great pool! We will be back! Thank you for a great stay!

Beautiful campground with lots of shade trees. Campsites were rather narrow. But everything was clean and tidy. Very nice management.

I am a travel nurse and have traveled all over the United States. Chimney Rock RV Park has been such a great place to stay while working in Lexington, KY!! Being a lone female traveler, I have always felt safe here. I have been here for a year. The owners are literally the best!!! They closely monitor the premises. The entrance and exit are gated. And there are security cameras all around the park. The park is family owned and the owners live on site. The park is very clean and very well maintained. It’s the best little hidden gem in the country on Herrington lake and above the marina and restaurant. There are also several other marinas with restaurants nearby. I would definitely recommend Chimney Rock RV Park, and I would definitely stay here again!
