We spent 5 nights in our fifth wheel in the upper tier. We loved our view of the canal, however it would been lovely to be at the water’s edge. The location is phenomenal as you are able to walk to downtown Houghton & use the park as your base to explore the peninsula. We felt the only downsides were the closeness of the sites & the park is part of an atv trail, creating unwanted noise outside our rig.

Nice campground right on the canal. Each site has a full hook up and picnic table. Campground is conveniently located to nearby attractions. The wifi connection was great! There are no showers and it is a bit of a walk to the bathrooms at the nearby park.

Wow! This place was fantastic. The camp host was just super friendly. The site were spacious, full hook ups, with a cover picnic table, easy access to the park and downtown Houghton. The only thing that could have been better is if they were driver side back ins, but hey, the people were friendly as they waited for me. My understanding from talking with folks at the local rstaurants is that this park is in high demand. We were there for 5 days and it was a wonderful time.

No laundry. No shower house. Two days in site 20, two days in site 18 and two days in site 12. We had a mechanical issue and had to leave three days early. Zero refund for those three days. Lots of noisy side by side sand buggies passing through the park. Will stay at other park one mile away next time. Other park has full facilities and a cheaper weekly rate.

We really enjoyed our stay in Houghton, it was a great park. it is clean, has great views and easy access to everything. The park hosts were outstanding. The only down sides were that you are parked very close to each and with that density things like smoking, windchimes and lights from neghbors can be difficult. We were surprised that as a city park smoking was allowed. The "patios" are right next to each other and the people next to us smoked ciggarets and cigars. We were unable to use our patio/deck and we had to keep our windows closed, it was bad. They also left their porch light on and hung wind chimes that ended up just a few feet from our bedroom window. It would be nice if they had a few extra rules due to the tight parking.

The location is both a cool thing, and if you don’t know your way in, it’s a bad thing. The signs for the RV park are small and low so we missed them the first time around. When you see the kayak rental place, turn in there and stay left, the RV park is through the kayak rental place parking lot. Stay off Canal Street with your rig, it’s crazy steep. Once in, you have a wonderful river front view and a great walking path. It’s about 1/2 mile walk to Shelden Avenue in Houghton. We walked down this street and did the shops and bars, was about 2 miles round trip. Fun afternoon. Absolutely lovely sites, mostly paved, little covered pavilions on every site. Full hookup. Wonderful sunsets are visible from the Chutes and Ladders playground. Park WiFi did not work for us, no laundry, no shower house. There is a restroom in the kayak rental place. The park is loud-ish, as it’s right next to 26. Would stay here again.

We really enjoyed our week stay here! My favorite part was the little pavilion on the canal that each site gets! Beautiful views of the sunset on Portage Canal. We loved the riverfront walk to downtown Houghton. Dog friendly. Right on the park for the kids. Kayak rentals and ice cream near by. The hosts were super nice! All sites are full hookup including wifi and cable.Very reasonably priced. Would definitely recommend!

Very nice older couple that manages the place. They even called to check in on us to make sure they were going to be around when we made it to town. Very affordable. Water electric and dump site all at your campsite. Very well kept and surprisingly quiet in spite of being next to the main road. There is a waterfront Park and boardwalk which goes all the way through town right from the campsite.

Great views, swimming and playground for all ages! Really enjoyed the Rotary Pavilion and music in the park. Campground owner and host extremely helpful and kind. Can access walking and biking trails easily- only downside was lack of running space for the dogs but we made it work. Definitely will be back!

Beautiful, peaceful location right on the banks of the Portage Waterway. Adjacent to a park and a walking path along waterway and into downtown. Camp hosts went out of their way to help us locate service to resolve a problem with our gear shifter. And another guest in the campground offered to help us fix a problem with our mirror! Couldn't have asked for friendlier people willing to go out of their way to help a stranger!!! Had a wonderful stay at City of Houghton RV Park and a great trip to Isle Royale!!!
