Clearwater Lake Park

Overview

Clearwater Lake Provincial Park is a crown jewel of Northern Manitoba, famous for its exceptionally clear water that rivals tropical destinations. As one of the few true blue lakes in the world, it offers a serene escape within a lush boreal forest. RVers come here to experience the striking visibility of the lake floor, which can reach depths of over 30 feet, providing a unique sense of peace and natural beauty that is rare in the northern wilderness.

Location & Surroundings

Located just north of The Pas, MB, this park is nestled in a region where the prairie meets the northern shield. The landscape is defined by limestone bedrock and dense forests of spruce and poplar. The lake itself is spring-fed, keeping the water remarkably clean and cool throughout the summer months. The surrounding area provides a rugged, prehistoric backdrop that feels remote yet remains accessible for those traveling through the northern corridor of the province.

Amenities & Park Features

The park features two main campgrounds, Pioneer and Campers Cove, which offer electrical hookups suitable for various RV sizes. While full sewer hookups are not available at individual sites, visitors have access to convenient central modern washrooms, shower facilities, and a water filling station. The park is well-equipped with multiple boat launches and large playground areas, ensuring that families and boaters have everything they need for a comfortable stay while remaining immersed in nature.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

The most iconic activity is hiking the Caves Self-Guided Trail, where deep crevices in the limestone rock create natural refrigerators that hold snow and ice long into the summer. Anglers frequent the lake for its world-class lake trout fishing, while the shallow, sandy shoreline at Campers Cove is perfect for swimming and sunbathing. For a bit of local history and culture, the nearby town of The Pas offers unique exhibits at the Sam Waller Museum.

Who This Park Is Best For

This destination is ideal for nature enthusiasts who prefer a quiet, scenic environment over a bustling resort atmosphere. It is a fantastic choice for families looking for a safe, clear swimming area and for outdoor photographers wanting to capture the rare turquoise hues of the water. If you enjoy a rustic experience with the convenience of power for your rig, this park provides a perfect northern retreat for your next adventure.

The lake is clear and beautiful, and it is the perfect place to go camping nearby. However, there's not many places to go near the lake, such as activities or more than one snack bar. The Cave trail is a place that people should visit as it's part of the main attraction. Dogs are not allowed, but I see people bring their dogs anyway, so I brought mine to the beach and am responsible for any dog droppings. Overall, it's a beautiful place, and I had a good time.

Great place to check out. Just be aware there is little to no cell service. Also be careful on 'the caves' trail. The crevasses are pretty deep, with no barrier around them. You don't want to fall in one with no cell service. Awesome lake though.

I strongly recommend coming here while there is still ice on the water. The scenery here is legit my favourite yet in all my travels. I've seen waterfalls and big cities and thick woods, but this. It was something else. I can't explain properly, but just take my word that you need to make the trip. Along with water that almost resembles the bright azure blue of tropical beaches, you are surrounded by boreal forest and the trails takes you past a cave system that is beyond cool.

This place is like a fairy tale, it's so beautiful. The water is so clear it's almost magical how it gleams. Beautiful Sandy beaches can be found at different locations around this massive lake. Highly recommend exploring the surrounding areas and the caves. Completely awe inspiring beauty can be found here.

Edited June 26, 2020: My boyfriend and I along with family and friends stayed here this summer and even despite new covid rules the campground was still super easy to navigate and we didn't really lose much access to facilities. Another beautiful trip with amazing fishing, but this time due to the weather we explored "the caves". I have to say it was disappointing to see a lot of garbage, beer cans, graffiti etc there. If that got cleaned up it would be the perfect little trip. It took us about an hour and a bit to walk around, and the trail, crevices, and big rocks were super cool and it had a little spot on the water that was really beautiful. My boyfriend and I will be returning yearly- Clearwater lake is absolutely gorgeous with fantastic fishing. Highly recommend 👌 I stayed in campers cove and the campsite was very clean. A little confusing to navigate my first day but figured it out quickly. Access to bathrooms, showers, firewood, water, etc. (Pretty much everything). The lake itself was gorgeous and everything was so clean. Fishing was 👌. Cant wait to go back.
