Overview
Cleburne State Park serves as a scenic gateway to the rolling hills of North Central Texas. Centered around the spring-fed Cedar Lake, this park offers a peaceful escape from the bustling Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. Originally developed by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s, the park features a historic white rock spillway and limestone structures that blend seamlessly into the natural landscape. Visitors often appreciate the dense woodlands and the quiet atmosphere provided by the no-wake lake policy.
Location & Surroundings
Located just southwest of Cleburne, TX, the park sits at the transition point between the Grand Prairie and the Cross Timbers regions. The terrain is characterized by steep, cedar-covered hills and limestone outcroppings that create a surprisingly rugged feel for the area. Its proximity to Highway 67 makes it an accessible destination for North Texas residents, providing a distinct transition from suburban sprawl to the tranquil beauty of rolling ridges and shaded oak mottes.

Who This Park Is Best For
This destination is ideal for mountain bikers looking to challenge themselves on technical, hilly trails that offer some of the best riding in the region. It also serves as a perfect retreat for families seeking a safe, quiet environment for swimming and kayaking. Because of the limited noise and lack of motorized boats, it is a premier choice for birdwatchers and those who prefer a meditative camping experience compared to high-traffic commercial RV resorts.

We had a great time at the park. We were one of the only groups there, which made it even better. The staff was extremely helpful and made sure all the campers were taken care of during the ice storm that came through.

Super amazing park. It was really quiet, and clean, has plenty of trails to explore, and has really nice bathrooms and showers. Oh and the lake....amazing! I was there when the weather was quite cold, so no swimming for me, but it would be such a fun lake to swim in because of how clear that water is. I'd definitely bring a mask ans snorkel if you're coming around in the summer. I was there for a four day trip with my dog, and we had such a fun time, and can't wait to come back again.

Absolutely gorgeous park! The lake is spring fed, crystal clear water. Plenty of hiking trails that are beautiful as well.

Cool little state park to go hang for a few days. Not so big that you can't enjoy everything to do, could use a little more trail maintenance, but it was overall clean, everything was accessible, quiet and bringing the kayaks for the kids, very much appreciated the no wake lake. 😉 Also, if you time it right with the rain fall you'll get to see some of the larger falls in the area, so a return trip is in our future for sure.

We camped here for 2 nights and 3 days. We camped at campsite 10. It was private and close to the public swim beach and restrooms. The park was beautiful. The swim beach is lovely - no rocks, shallow enough for young kids to play in and very accessible and clean. We wound up purchasing firewood from one of the self-service kiosks and it was the perfect way to spend the evening. Deducting one star for maintenance in some areas. The plants were overgrown in several areas and covered in thorns - including on the bridge to the restrooms by the camping loop. Lots of wildlife - what would you know? Make sure to keep everything locked up at night. We did experience some items being taken by racoons. It was our fault though for leaving things out and available for them to steal. Also, you'll want to bring a long extension cord for access to the electricity. For example, we wanted to set up our tent in a grassy area, but we brought a 20ft extension cord for our fan and it was not long enough to reach across the parking space and into the softer grassy area for our tent. Overall, I did enjoy our stay. The staff was friendly and the park was quiet and beautiful. I loved seeing all of the stars.
