Coconino/Pinegrove

Overview

Pinegrove Campground, managed as part of the Coconino National Forest, offers a quintessential Northern Arizona outdoor experience for travelers. Located just south of Flagstaff, this facility provides a scenic mountain escape amidst a lush stand of mature ponderosa pines. Unlike high-traffic commercial resorts, it emphasizes a serene connection with the natural world while remaining highly accessible for modern RVers seeking a break from the desert heat during the vibrant summer months.

Location & Surroundings

The park is situated at an impressive elevation of approximately 6,900 feet, ensuring refreshing temperatures and crisp mountain air throughout the peak season. It sits conveniently near the shores of Upper Lake Mary, providing easy access to one of the region's most popular water-based recreation areas. The surrounding landscape is characterized by rolling forest terrain and dense cover, creating a natural buffer that makes every individual campsite feel like a private, secluded retreat deep within the woods.

Amenities & Park Features

Pinegrove features well-maintained paved parking spurs that can accommodate a variety of RV sizes, including many big-rig motorhomes up to 45 feet. While the park does not offer individual utility hookups, it provides essential comforts including accessible vault toilets, pressurized drinking water, and a convenient dump station for waste management. Each site is equipped with a heavy-duty picnic table and a campfire ring with a grill, perfect for traditional evening gatherings under a stunning, star-filled Arizona sky.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Outdoor enthusiasts will find a wealth of activities nearby, with fishing and motorized boating at Upper Lake Mary located just minutes from the campground entrance. Hikers can easily explore the Sandys Canyon Trail or take a short scenic drive to witness the impressive ancient cliff dwellings at Walnut Canyon National Monument. For a taste of local culture and science, the historic downtown district of Flagstaff and the world-famous Lowell Observatory are both within a comfortable twenty-minute drive.

Who This Park Is Best For

This destination is truly ideal for nature-focused travelers and families who prefer a quiet, rustic atmosphere over the bustle of a typical urban RV resort. It is a fantastic choice for RVers who are comfortable with dry camping but still appreciate the convenience of paved pads and proximity to modern city services. If you value forest solitude, frequent wildlife viewing, and easy access to alpine lakes, Pinegrove serves as a premier basecamp for your Northern Arizona adventure.

I had an excellent stay at Pine Grove Campground. The Hosts were super friendly, knowledgeable about the area and very attentive to everyone's needs. The water, dump and shower area was impeccably clean. I had a great stay at Pine Grove.

Nice campground. Super nice staff. Water and dump available and included in the price! My only complaint is the space for truck and camper is too small and too close to the loop road. Included water and dump keeps it at 5 stars!! Oh, and all paved roads to get there.

Great campground! My wife and I were hiking through and stayed the night. Outstanding camp hosts! Very friendly and accommodating to our last minute stay. Campsites were clean and spacious. The bathrooms were spotless. They take great care and you can tell!

Love this campground! Beautiful, peaceful, and spacious campsites. Very clean bathrooms and showers. Excellent hosts - Charlie, Sandy & Steve - all very friendly and hardworking. Their love and protection of the forest and its wildlife is really appreciated by most of us who love camping in the national parks. Will definitely return here!

We were alarmed with the amount of rodents we experienced running around the campsites. The campsite we stayed at was infested. Our neighbors in campsite 39 were feeding the rodents throughout the day -ground squirrels, voles, squirrels, chipmunks. I went to notify the camp host and was shocked for him to say “it’s fine to feed the rodents.” Considering the amount of diseases that rodents can pass to humans this is alarming. We have reservations for later this year but will be canceling. Also will be trying to contact explor us - the company that runs this campground to inform them about the issue which I would consider common sense knowledge.
