Cold Springs Station Resort

Overview

Cold Springs Station Resort is a legendary stop located along one of the most iconic stretches of pavement in the United States. Originally serving as a historic Pony Express station in the mid-1800s, this site has evolved into a full-service desert retreat for modern travelers. It offers a unique blend of rugged history and welcoming hospitality, providing a much-needed sanctuary for those navigating the vast, scenic stretches of the Nevada landscape. Visitors can enjoy the rustic charm of the Great Basin while benefiting from the creature comforts of a well-maintained facility.

Location & Surroundings

Situated approximately 50 miles east of downtown Fallon on The Loneliest Road in America (U.S. Route 50), the resort is nestled within the shadows of the Desatoya Mountains. The location provides an authentic high-desert experience characterized by unobstructed horizons and some of the darkest night skies in the country. This remote setting offers a peaceful escape from urban noise, where the only sound is the desert wind and the occasional traveler passing through the high plains.

Amenities & Park Features

The RV park is designed for traveler convenience, featuring spacious pull-through sites that easily accommodate larger rigs. On-site facilities include:

  • Full hookup sites with 30 and 50 amp service.
  • A full-service restaurant and bar known for homestyle cooking.
  • Clean shower facilities and guest laundry.
  • A general store providing ice, snacks, and travel essentials.

The resort also offers motel rooms and tent sites, creating a diverse community atmosphere where guests can relax after a long day of driving through the Nevada wilderness.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Outdoor adventurers will appreciate being a short drive from Sand Mountain Recreation Area, a massive six-story sand dune popular for off-roading and hiking. History buffs can visit the Grimes Point Archaeological Area to view ancient petroglyphs and learn about the region's prehistoric inhabitants. The surrounding basin and range topography also provides ample opportunities for rockhounding, photography, and exploring the remnants of early Nevada settlements and mining districts scattered throughout Churchill County.

Who This Park Is Best For

This resort is an ideal choice for cross-country RVers looking for a reliable and friendly stopover while crossing the Great Basin. It is particularly well-suited for off-road enthusiasts who need a comfortable base camp near the dunes, as well as travelers who value a sense of historic charm and the quiet solitude of the desert over the crowded atmosphere of a traditional urban RV park. It is a perfect fit for those who see the journey as part of the adventure.

This place is awesome! Middle of nowhere with excellent food. Every time we make a trip to Sand Mountain we always make a ride to cold Springs for Burgers. Highly recommend!!

Good spot to camp in an RV while passing through. Very basic - full hook ups but no grass patch or fire pit or picnic table. Surprisingly late quiet hours and a later checkout (noon) that I enjoyed. Great food at the restaurant with some nice cocktails and very friendly service/owners. Free Wi-Fi across the park, which was needed since I had no cell service (T-Mobile) for about 40 miles each direction. My only complaint was that my sewer hookup was high, loose, and didn't have a standard size thread on it. But it worked.

We pulled in here to charge our EV rig and were very happy not to have to unhitch. We were able to pull through and also have lunch at the Cafe. The people are absolutely amazing, friendly and welcoming. This is a definite place to stop and recharge our take a break. You should even spend a few days...

We camped here overnight and it was very comfortable. Level sites. Not much shade though. Very quiet at night. We also had dinner here which was excellent. Such an interesting place. We chatted with the owners a bit after dinner and they were such nice folks.

I was driving from Henderson for Service work in Lund, Ely then Reno. I stopped at Cold Springs Station and got a Burger and Fries. It was great, the veggies were fresh, the bun was great and held the burger all the way to the end. The hamburger was cooked perfectly. If I wasn't working I would have had a beer. The staff was friendly and my order came out pretty quick. Please support this business, I will be back the next time I'm on the Loneliest Road in America
