Coles Creek

Overview

Coles Creek State Park serves as a peaceful retreat nestled along the eastern banks of the St. Lawrence River. Known for its scenic water views and generous site spacing, this park offers a classic state park experience for RV travelers. Whether you are looking to watch the massive international freighters pass by or simply enjoy a quiet evening by the fire, the atmosphere here is centered on the natural beauty of the Northern New York landscape. The park provides a quiet, laid-back vibe that allows visitors to disconnect from the hustle of urban life.

Location & Surroundings

Located just outside the village of Waddington, NY, the park occupies a prime spot on Lake St. Lawrence. The surrounding area is characterized by lush woodlands and the expansive blue waters of the river. Travelers will appreciate the easy access via Route 37, which provides a straightforward route for rigs of various sizes. The park’s geography creates a mix of open grassy areas and shaded spots, providing a sense of seclusion and a feeling of being immersed in the local ecosystem, which is teeming with waterfowl and local wildlife.

Amenities & Park Features

The park features over 230 campsites, with more than half offering electric hookups to accommodate modern RV needs. While full hookups are not available, the park provides convenient dump stations and clean comfort stations equipped with hot showers and flush toilets. Families often gather at the sandy swimming beach, which is a highlight during the summer months, while boaters take advantage of the on-site launch facilities. For those traveling with children, the well-maintained playground and various picnic pavilions offer plenty of space for daily recreation.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Anglers flock to this region for world-class fishing, particularly targeting smallmouth bass and muskellunge in the river's depths. Just a short drive away, visitors can watch the impressive engineering of the Eisenhower Lock in Massena, where massive ships transition through the St. Lawrence Seaway. For a longer excursion, the Thousand Islands region offers boat tours and historic castles, while the nearby Canadian border provides an opportunity for international exploration for those seeking a diverse travel itinerary during their stay in Waddington.

Who This Park Is Best For

This destination is ideal for outdoor enthusiasts who prioritize water access and a relaxed pace of life. It is particularly well-suited for families seeking a safe, traditional camping environment with plenty of room to roam and explore. Because of its location on the Seaway, it is also a top choice for boaters and ship-watchers who want to be close to the maritime action while enjoying the quietude and simplicity of a rural New York state park setting.

Stayed in July for two weeks at site 71, then site 77. Both sites were nice grassy sites. 30amp, no water or sewer on site. Busy park with many families, most local. Bathroom near my site was mostly clean with warm water in the shower. Workers were mostly very young and present around the park constantly. Trash was picked up on site.

The campground itself was clean and looks good aesthetically with great views and water access. There are far too many campsites crowded together with little to no privacy buffer.

Very nice area with a ton of room for large campers and tents. Plenty of shade, cute little beach for swimming and lots of room for fishing!
