Collins Lake Recreation Area

Spent the day at Collins Lake with a friend. We had such a wonderful time! We floated on rafts and simply enjoyed the beauty and the quiet peacefulness you can only get from communing with nature.

This place used to be good… this last year has just been horrible for them! Rude, inconsiderate, and incompetent staff. I called ahead to book a lakeside campsite, they gave me a list of ones that were directly on the water, so i took one. We got there and the campsite was no where near the water! The lake was just under a half mile away down a steep rocky path, absolutely nothing like what i had asked for and definitely not going to work for my girl and I. After going to the kiosk and trying to explaIn the error they made, they never apologized for the mixup, they did give me a full refund initially which i had to pay back to them because of other issues on this trip. I was forced to stay in that campsite for one night before getting moved to a “lakeside” campsite… spoiler alert, it was not lakeside either! I went up to the kiosk the next morning to get the new tag and they made me pay for the site that i was told was free because of a communication error on THEIR end between 2 of THEIR employees. So i paid as an attempt to still make our vacation happen. A ranger came by the next morning to tell me i can stay in a spot right next to the one i was staying in for an extra night as an “apology” or whatever. Which was great! We weren't as upset and pissed off until a different ranger came by later that day and told us we needed to snag a tag from the kiosk or leave. We had already set up our stuff so we went to the kiosk and they told us straight up that we had to pay or leave… we went down to our campsite packed everything up and came back up to the kiosk to return our previous tag. The lady at the counter all of a sudden had a change of heart when i told her i wanted to file a complaint. Instead of the “you must pay of leave” lectures, this time she said “if your really that upset let me just give you that campsite”…. Genuinely the worst service ever!! If you couldve let me stay, why the hell would you say that after you told me to pack all my stuff up and leave!! We had bought a bunch of food and shower tokens from the shop specifically because they stated we could stay, which also were not refundable supposedly!! We were both so livid we opted to file the complaint and leave! We wanted nothing to do with this place. They will always change their minds to what suits them. Even after filing the complaint, i was told there was a mandatory follow up phone call the next day. I did not receive anything and i have called three times now with no answer and no call back. DO NOT COME HERE!!!! We have very limited time off and vacation funds. We ended up spending more money trying to get them to fix all their issues and problems. AND ON TOP OF THAT, we both left our supposedly relaxing vacation probably 10 times more stressed out and mentally drained than when we left for the trip! This is not the first time we have had issues here this year!! This placed used to be amazing. I have no clue what happened!! Its been 3 days now and i still have not gotten the call they promised me, nor a refund for this entire trip as we should be getting. We were planning on fishing the entire 3 days! We got to fish for a total of 30 minutes to an hour because we were dealing with the staff’s BS! I will not be coming back nor do i have any intention of returning to this circus tent of tricks until they at least apologize and refund me for this sorry excuse of a vacation. I repeat, DO NOT CAMP HERE!! Im surprised their ice cream is still frozen cause their attitude runs so hot.

We've stayed at Collins before and had good experiences, but unfortunately this visit will be our last. Quiet hours after 10 PM were not enforced at all. Children were screaming well into the night while their parents laughed about it, and music from multiple RVs echoed throughout the campground until 1 AM. Getting any decent sleep was impossible. The bathrooms were also in unacceptable condition. One bathroom had blood on multiple surfaces. The porta-potties were somehow cleaner, but still gross. It looked like some drunk guy (I'm assuming) had urinated all over them. I know this isn't really management's fault, but as a heads up, there are a lot of geese and, with that, a lot of goose poop. It gave more pond than lake vibes. The water was also very brown, much browner than I remember from previous visits. We ended up leaving a day early and only stayed one night because of everything. No refund or accommodation was offered, although I didn't really push the issue since I just wanted to leave, so that's probably more on me than them. We won't be returning, and we'll be encouraging friends and family to stay elsewhere. Collins seems to have become more of a party campground than a family campground. If you're looking for loud music and a late-night party atmosphere, you may enjoy it. If you're looking for a quiet, family-friendly camping experience, this probably isn't the place for you.

Easy reservations and great atmosphere. We have been going here over 25 years. They have been doing some upgrades over the past few years and it is turning out to be a very nice modern camping and fishing destination.

The trailer sites are tiny but the lake and the experience is 100% worth it. Family bike rides, kayaking, and fishing filled up most of the day. The have a huge park, day rentals, and the best ice cream at the store.

Collins Lake was a great place to camp. Bathrooms were clean and seemed like they clean constantly. Market was nice, had all the essentials and plenty of souvenirs.

The lake is nice and all. I prefer locations with more space between campers. It is close though I will drive here just for the ice cream. Crazy good!

Great spot to camp whether you prefer a tent, trailer, or even a cabin camping. Clean facilities and great little store. Even with a low lake level, you still get great use of the lake.

The loudest campground I've ever been to! If there are quiet hours, they're not enforced. This over packed, high density campground is loud until at least 3am (in the summer). The staff also has no common sense. Our friend's son got lost in the dark, and another family found him. They contacted the camp staff, they called her phone (there is no service), and it went straight to voicemail- that was the end of their effort. They could have come to the campsite registered to her name to tell her, but no. They left us to run around the campground shouting for him. Fortunately he was found safe. The campground imhas FAR too many people and sites for the number of bathroom facilities- which are porta-potties.

We got here on a Wednesday beautiful place, but on Friday a big group of young adults came in and took up 6 sites around us, I have never been so upset about a camping spot, quite hours are from 10pm to 8am these people blasted their bass thumping music all night and singing very loud, we didn't get any sleep that night. Definitely complained to office on Saturday morning, Saturday night started out with no music but still very loud drunk people throwing up in tents and cursing very loud, by midnight it finally died down. We left Sunday morning very disappointed in the experience. I would suggest if you go to stay here do it during the week not the weekend. We also fished for three days and didn't catch a thing. We will never come here again!

Collins Lake was the best getaway from town and away from people and now under the nature, we were able to get our own freedom away from everyone and in the nature we rented out a boat for $295 it was awesome. One of my best experiences I ever had. I’d recommend everyone who come on a weekend or a weekday run a boat and go out and have fun. It’s one of the best things you can do at Collins Lake. I appreciate the stuff and the employees in the Security and everyone that worked there they were so nice and generous and helpful. I was able to learn a lot about the lake. It was one of my best experiences ever the water was warm and it was nice. I like everything about this place.

Check in was super easy and staff is wonderful and helpful. Campsite with water and power. Close the water. Kids love there's a playground nearby. Neighbors are pretty good about noise ordinance at 10pm. Some keeps lights on though which shines into our tent but not too bad. Bathrooms were clean.

I am the lucky one living not that far from the location and have a frequent opportunity to visit the place. Sometimes, I first go to the ice-cream and coffee place and sit there for a while. And, sometimes, I directly go to the lake just to quietly absorb the impressions and look at the peaceful scenery with rare boats and birds drifting by. The left side of the lake is quieter. It gives so much of simple joy and relaxing energy! And if I feel like socializing, then, you go to the right, to the pier. There are usually people swimming there.

This is a great campground. It's not a quiet campground, it's busy. Hundreds of spaces. But knowing that ahead of time sets the stage. There are RV spaces, tent spaces, and even cabins. Lots of shade options and views of the lake. There is a marina, you can rent boats! The camp store has everything you need that you forgot. And more! Super yummy ice cream, too. The staff is always friendly and helpful. We go back most years. Lake is nice and full right now, too. Just beautiful! A chorus of birds surrounds the area. They have a nice hike groomed as well.

The lake is at capacity with plenty of fish to catch. Bring a boat or rent something. Hiking trails ate good and pets are all8wex on a leash. Of course the Gift shop is chock full of fun things and there's Ice Cream to die for!
