Collins Park (Portage County Park)
Overview
Collins Park offers a peaceful escape within the heart of Central Wisconsin. Managed by the Portage County Parks Department, this 21-acre destination provides a classic Northwoods experience without the long drive further north. The park is characterized by its mature hardwood canopy and immediate access to the crystal-clear waters of Collins Lake. It is an ideal spot for those who value natural beauty and quiet evenings over the high-energy environment of commercial resort frills.
Location & Surroundings
Tucked away in Rosholt, Wisconsin, the park is surrounded by a picturesque mix of rolling farmlands and dense forests. This glacial landscape creates a stunning backdrop for evening walks or morning birdwatching sessions. While the park feels delightfully secluded, it remains easily accessible from County Road I, making it a convenient stop for travelers exploring the Central Wisconsin region. The proximity to several small inland lakes ensures that serene water views are never far away.

The campground features approximately 27 sites, many of which are equipped with electrical hookups to accommodate modern RVs and trailers. Key facilities available to guests include:
- A well-maintained swimming beach and paved boat launch.

Anglers will appreciate the chance to catch bass, northern pike, and panfish on Collins Lake, a beautiful 42-acre spring-fed water body. For those looking to stretch their legs on land, the famous Ice Age National Scenic Trail passes through the nearby area, offering miles of world-class hiking through diverse terrain. A short drive into Stevens Point provides access to the Central Wisconsin Craft Collective breweries, the Schmeeckle Reserve, and a variety of local dining options.
Who This Park Is Best For
This park is perfect for weekend warriors and families who enjoy a traditional, rustic camping style. It is particularly well-suited for kayakers and anglers who want to be just steps away from the water's edge. Because of its smaller size and quiet atmosphere, it is an excellent choice for RVers seeking a slower pace of life where the primary entertainment is the sound of the wind through the trees and the gentle ripple of the lake.

Looks like a nice quiet campground with large sites. We just did a walk through as it is closed for the season.

Beautiful, no wake lake. Small but nice sand beach area. Probably 30 feet of beach.

Our family has been coming to this park for over 40 years. Wish there was more of a beach and clean swim area. This past year there was a lot of weeds and overgrowth. We will continue to come back because it is a very important part of our lives and we all find peace there.

Very nice, smaller County Park. The campground was closed, but we have heard from others its a great place to camp. The lake was beautiful and excellent for a bit of kayaking. Clear water and lots of birds to see. Boat Launch if really nice. Its a no wake lake, however. The picnic areas have lots of picnic tables, and there's a playground, nice bathrooms, volleyball court. Very peaceful place. The beach is quite small.

Beautiful place to camp. No wake lake makes for relaxing swimming and kayaking. Nice bathrooms too. Just an FYI that you need to bring your own water for cooking and drinking due to high nitrite levels.
