Colonial KOA

Overview

The Williamsburg / Colonial Williamsburg KOA Holiday offers a premium camping experience in the heart of Virginia’s most historic region. Spanning across a heavily wooded 180-acre property, this park serves as a tranquil base for travelers exploring the Historic Triangle. As a KOA Holiday, it successfully bridges the gap between a rustic retreat and a modern resort, ensuring guests have access to both nature and modern conveniences.

Location & Surroundings

Conveniently located just off Interstate 64, the park provides easy access to the main tourist corridors while remaining tucked away in a lush forest environment. The surrounding area is characterized by tall trees and rolling landscapes that define the Virginia Peninsula. Unlike many urban parks, this location provides a sense of seclusion and peace where guests can hear the sounds of nature while staying only minutes away from the vibrant activity of downtown Williamsburg.

Amenities & Park Features

This park is packed with features designed for recreation and convenience. Guests can enjoy a variety of on-site activities to keep everyone entertained during their stay:

  • Two seasonal swimming pools and a refreshing splash pad for families.
  • A massive jumping pillow, gem mining station, and a fun disc golf course.
  • A dedicated KampK9 dog park for four-legged travelers to roam.

The sites themselves cater to all RV sizes, offering options for premium patio sites with full hookups, cable TV, and reliable Wi-Fi to keep travelers connected throughout their stay.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

The primary draw of the area is the proximity to Colonial Williamsburg, where history comes to life through immersive reenactments. Thrill-seekers will appreciate being a short drive from Busch Gardens Williamsburg and Water Country USA. Additionally, the historic sites of Jamestown and Yorktown are nearby, connected by the scenic Colonial Parkway. For outdoor enthusiasts, the area offers numerous hiking trails and access to local waterways for kayaking.

Who This Park Is Best For

This park is ideal for families with children who need on-site entertainment and a safe environment to play. It is also a perfect match for history enthusiasts looking for a comfortable home base while touring Virginia’s colonial landmarks. Whether you are driving a big rig or a smaller camper, the spacious layouts and resort-style amenities cater to those who prefer a structured and feature-rich camping experience over primitive camping.

Lovely campground. Wooded sites that are spacious. Everything is immaculate and their camp host George is absolutely amazingly helpful. We had some issues unhitching and he just showed up to help us!!! We then had an issue with one of the windows on our camper and George went and got tools and fixed it for us. All while still leading people to their sites and working so hard. Highly recommend this campground and we will most definitely be returning!!! Oh and George is a rock star!!!!

Stayed at Williamsburg Campground 8-10 September 2025 lot number E68. Very well maintained Rv camping facility with beautiful spacious lots, mature trees and a whole host of amenities. Very professional staff who were always friendly with a positive demeanor. As for this particular lot, it was listed as a Pull-Thru but anything over 32 feet (as was my motorhome) I’m not too sure it is really sufficient. The embankment exiting the lot may just be too aggressive to facilitate a comfortable turn for a bigger rig and just not sure it would be possible. Discussed possible options with one of the park attendants (Dale?) and he mentions possibly dozing to widen the turn which I believe would work just perfectly. Other than that the lot was very nice and quiet with great shade from all the trees. Keep up the great work team!!

Our first time at this campground, but we will definitely be back. Depends on what the new owners do before our next trip!! We have had a wonderful stay. The amenities are all in very good condition and clean. The staff was friendly and attentive. Of special mention - George K. - an asset to the organization. A return trip is in planning, this time with the family!

I have stayed here several times now and this last stay was super disappointing. I decided to take my family on a last minute weekend getaway to Busch gardens. I figured staying here would be great as the previous experiences but the first night turned into a horror show. Knowing that we would be late I called ahead of time to let them know we would be checking in after hours. The lady I spoke to on the phone said no problem, we will be sure to leave the light on in the cabin for you along with turning the ac on. Upon arrival I was disgusted with the condition of the cabin (mind you we have stayed in several other cabins here at this campground and never really had any issues). It was after hours so I figured I would address the issues in the morning. Issues being the cabin looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in months. There were dead bugs laying all over the floor, cobwebs and spiders everywhere and just over filthy (the mattress on the bed was even torn). These are conditions I would expect from a roadside motel not a family campground. That night I ended up getting stung by a hornet 🐝 and had an allergic reaction. It was a miserable night (my kids didn’t sleep because they were scared of all the bugs). And while I get it, we are camping there will be bugs, but I mean come on this was way worse then even tent camping (see pictures). The cabins are deteriorating with holes in the floor boards and on the outside looks like termite damage. I brought the issues up to the lady in the morning and she seemed very apologetic and said she would be sure to share the issues with the manager Peter. She did offer to move our cabin but we were already on our way to Busch gardens and I really don’t have time to pack up all my stuff when I’m only staying the weekend. My husband had sprayed and had cleaned while I took a shower in the morning which shouldn’t have been our job to do. When coming back from the park I stopped in to speak with the manager Peter and was rudely interrupted by one of the employees who got super defensive and said the cabin was cleaned the day before and that there was no way there were all those cobwebs and bugs. Peter the manager seemed like he could care less, looking down at his paper while I talked to him about the issues. I showed him my allergic reaction and he was like oh here is some burn cream.. what is that going to do for me?! No I’m sorry let me investigate or nothing, like might as well said who cares lady. Like I said it was a huge disappointment because normally this place I love to visit but now I might as well stay at a roadside motel when returning.

We stayed in a Deluxe Cabin and it was perfect for a long weekend with our 2 kids! Great location and convenient to all the area attractions. The playground and pool were both big hits. My only complaint is that they advertise having wifi but we didn't have any Internet whatsoever our entire stay. Don't get me wrong, I'm down for an internet-free vacation, but I need to know ahead of time so I can plan accordingly. For example, I intended to buy tickets online for an event, but wasn't able to. Other than that, everything was great.
