Craigleith

Overview

Craigleith Provincial Park offers a unique coastal experience on the southern shores of Georgian Bay. Located at the base of the Blue Mountains, this park is famous for its fractured shale shoreline and historic shale oil works. Unlike traditional sandy beaches, the rocky terrain here showcases 450-million-year-old fossils, providing a rugged and educational environment for RV travelers seeking a scenic waterfront stop. Established in 1967, it provides a quiet escape from the busier resort areas while remaining incredibly accessible for those navigating larger rigs during their Ontario road trip.

Location & Surroundings

The park sits in a prime location along Highway 26, nestled between the town of Collingwood and the Blue Mountains. RVers enjoy panoramic views of Georgian Bay to the north and the towering escarpment to the south. The surrounding area is characterized by lush apple orchards and the dramatic topography of the Niagara Escarpment. This park serves as a gateway to the Wasaga Beach area to the east and the Meaford highlands to the west, making it a visually stunning basecamp for exploring the Grey-Bruce region.

Amenities & Park Features

The campground provides several loops with electrical hookups suitable for various RV sizes. On-site facilities include comfort stations with flush toilets and showers, a laundromat, and a park store for camping essentials. The park offers both pull-through and back-in sites to accommodate different configurations, ensuring a smooth setup process for big rigs. While the shoreline is rocky, the park features a protected launch area for canoes and kayaks. There is also a convenient dump station and water filling area designed specifically to accommodate modern motorhomes and trailers.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Adventure awaits just minutes from the park gates. Visitors can explore the Blue Mountain Village for high-end dining and shopping or visit the Scenic Caves Nature Adventures for suspension bridge walks. The nearby Bruce Trail offers world-class hiking along the escarpment with breathtaking lookouts. During the warmer months, the Georgian Trail provides a flat, scenic path for cycling enthusiasts that runs right past the park entrance. For history buffs, the Fossil Glen area is a must-see for spotting trilobite and brachiopod fossils embedded in the rock.

Who This Park Is Best For

This park is ideal for active RVers who want to be close to the action of Blue Mountain while enjoying a waterfront setting. It is a perfect fit for fossil enthusiasts and photographers drawn to the unique, weathered shale landscape. Because of its open layout and proximity to the highway, it is best for travelers who prioritize convenience and exploration over secluded wilderness. Families looking for a well-connected basecamp to explore Collingwood’s recreational activities will find the park’s organized facilities and location highly beneficial.

This company shares the beauty of the hills to the lake. Well planned out floor plan with everything considered. 5.5 on my scale

OMG. Great club management. So we’ll run. Like a well oiled machine. They have skillz. And when they make snow it smells like Chardonnay for some reason. Their corduroy is like velour. Or crushed velvet.

The facilities and staff are top notch! We are beginners and they all made us feel right at home like we’ve been coming for years!! They had my kids laughing and the instructor had us on the bigger hills in no time. Can’t wait to come back already

I came down here for a CASI level 1 course. Food is so good, I love their sweet potato fries and bacon grilled cheese. The runs are also so pretty and overall great place

What a great day, good skiing at the end of March. Conditions were very icy. I expected sloppy spring skiing and got mid February conditions as we had a major cold snap and it froze everything. The place was beautiful, both chalets were amazing, both in architecture and in feel. There are beautiful spaces to be in although I do like the wooden one a little better. There was a great variety of runs, I skied all that were open. Alot of leg burners, good bumps and jumps, fun moguls to ski and a really good terrain park. I tried the super kicker and almost ate my knees on landing, huge kicker unlike anything I tried, it was fun and scary at the same time. Lots of blacks and a few dbl black diamonds (the majority were closed) to keeps your legs burning, good lifts and lifties, fun triva by the lifties, almost all lifts were high speed quads, that ripped fast. You were up in no time. Although somewhat busy, I never waited more then 2 or 3 chairs before loading, that's the beauty of a private club. All the people I met were very nice. Alot of families were there skiing together as well. It seemed as though everyone knew each other as well. People all happy talking in the lines, in the chalets, on the chairs and across the slopes. It seemed to be a very friendly place where all got along, alot of holding doors, allowing you to go ahead in line, that kind of thing. Lots of parking, no trouble there at all. Good food, pub type, but I am sure they offer more high end. I just had a burger and fries, but it was very good, very tasty, big serving of fries, I was stuffed after. I did not drink there at all but they do seem to have a good tap selection as well. I was told that they have a great wine selection to go along with it all, but once again, I did not partake. Craigleith has one of the most beautiful views of the lake I have seen, it is really a beautiful place to ski. It was very clear in the morning and you could see clear across the bay. The sunset as I was leaving was spectacular. So why only four starts, well, one third of the resort was closed. So I will add a star once I get to ski the closed slopes, save something for next time. Cheers!
