Overview
Located in the heart of the Rogue River National Forest, Crater Lake RV Park provides a peaceful, shaded retreat for travelers exploring Southern Oregon. This park is widely known for its tall timber setting and its close proximity to the state’s only national park. It successfully balances a rustic, natural atmosphere with modern infrastructure, making it a reliable and serene basecamp for nature lovers who appreciate a well-maintained, forest-integrated environment during their travels.
Location & Surroundings
Situated in the historic town of Prospect, Oregon, the park sits at an elevation of roughly 2,500 feet. It is surrounded by towering pines and firs, offering a cool, dense canopy during the warm summer months. Its strategic location on Highway 62 makes it the primary gateway for those visiting the South Entrance of Crater Lake National Park, which is just a short, scenic drive away through the lush mountain landscape.
Amenities & Park Features
The park is designed with modern RVs in mind, offering full hookups with 50-amp service and spacious sites that accommodate large rigs. Travelers will find paved roads and level gravel pads, which are a significant advantage in such a heavily wooded area. Key facilities include clean restrooms, laundry rooms, and a dedicated fenced dog park, ensuring that both human and canine guests are comfortable and safe during their forest stay.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
Beyond the famous deep blue waters of Crater Lake, visitors are just minutes away from the Rogue River, which is famous for world-class fishing and whitewater rafting. Within walking distance or a short drive, the Prospect State Scenic Viewpoint offers stunning trails leading to Mill Creek Falls and Barr Creek Falls. The nearby Avenue of the Giant Boulders provides a unique geological experience where massive volcanic rocks line the scenic riverbed, perfect for photography and exploration.

It appeals greatly to big-rig owners seeking easy navigation and families looking for a quiet, safe environment away from city noise. Though it's an older park, in our opinion it is very much a hidden gem. Crater Lake National Park is a short drive away as well as several waterfalls. The park is on the smaller side with only about 60 sites. A majority of the sites are fairly close together but it doesn't feel like it because the sites are all tucked back in amongst the trees. Several sites are big rig friendly. There is a $1.00 a day dog fee which as a dog owner we have no issue with this. However, not sure what this fee covers at this park as there is no dog park or pet waste station (poop bags). We had no T-Mobile service while there. The park has a newly built bathhouse and laundry room. Even with its proximity to Hwy 62 it is a very quiet campground. The staff is very friendly and helpful. If you're looking for a nice and quiet place to unwind this is it!! We would definitely stay there again.

This is definitely a big rig rv park. With our 36ft fifth wheel and our truck in our site there's still room to park another vehicle. Others have reported lack of cell service but our Verizon is very strong, however as you go north towards Crater lake you lose all cell service with 1/2 mile. There's a days worth of sightseeing within 10 miles of the campground - a Natural Bridge (must see), Gorge overlook and 3 different waterfalls. There are a couple of local restaurants but most restaurants and stores are 40 to 60 minutes away.

These days, campgrounds like to charge hotel prices and capitalize on the “low maintenance”. We’ve stayed at 1 too many tv campgrounds that are poorly maintained, have dirty bathrooms, and customer service is 👎🏻👎🏻. CRATER LAKE RV is not that way. This campground is located 25 min south of Crater lake national park, nestled perfectly in the pines and beautifully cared for. Staff is friendly and oh so helpful. Part of the check In process includes a briefing on the beautiful waterfalls close by and great places to eat. We paid $45 a night 😱 and I would’ve paid way more for this experience. Bathrooms were pristine and they do fun community activities. On Saturdays they do coffee and breakfast, and hot dogs and live music at night.

What a beautiful camp site! RV sites were large with plenty of room to back in (ours was a back-in site), it felt very private with plenty of trees giving a feel that you were deep in the forest. The staff were wonderful, kind and very knowledgeable with great tips for getting to Crater Lake early to avoid long lines! The bathrooms were clean with lots of hot water, and the site had access to small hiking trails with great views. Everything was great and we would for sure stay here again!

After a frustrating experience at another RV park, Crater Lake RV Park was a breath of fresh air. The staff here were incredibly kind and welcoming — we felt respected and taken care of from the moment we arrived. They even answered the phone after regular office hours to help us resolve an issue, which really went above and beyond. The atmosphere was peaceful and friendly, and we had a lovely, relaxing stay. On Saturday, they hosted a fun community party that brought everyone together — such a nice touch! It truly made the experience feel personal and memorable. We’re so glad we ended up here. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a warm, well-run RV park near Crater Lake!
