Crooked Lake

Overview

Crooked Lake Provincial Park offers a serene retreat nestled within the scenic Qu'Appelle Valley. This destination is well-regarded by Saskatchewan travelers for its lush greenery and direct access to the water. Unlike busy resort hubs, this park maintains a peaceful atmosphere where the natural beauty of the valley takes center stage, making it an ideal stop for those exploring the province’s southeastern region. Whether you are passing through on the Trans-Canada Highway or looking for a multi-day stay, the park provides a refreshing escape into nature.

Location & Surroundings

Located approximately 30 kilometers north of Grenfell, SK, the park is defined by the dramatic valley walls and the shimmering waters of Crooked Lake. The surrounding area is characterized by stands of trembling aspen and bur oak, providing a striking contrast to the flat prairies nearby. It is a geographically unique pocket of the province that feels tucked away from the main highway corridor. The park’s position along the lakefront ensures that almost every visitor is never more than a short walk from a scenic waterfront view.

Amenities & Park Features

RVers will find a variety of camping options designed to accommodate different travel styles. The park provides essential facilities that make a stay comfortable for long-term visitors and weekenders alike. Key features include:

  • Spacious electric hookup sites that can accommodate various rig sizes.
  • A central sani-dump station and modern washroom facilities with showers.
  • Two well-maintained boat launches and a large sandy beach area.

The layout of the campground is designed to provide a sense of privacy while maintaining easy access to the communal playground and picnic areas, which are perfect for families.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Water-based recreation is the main draw here, with the lake being a popular spot for both motorized and non-motorized boating. Visitors can enjoy a variety of activities during their stay:

  • Excellent opportunities for walleye and northern pike fishing right from the shore or a boat.
  • Exploring the local sections of the Trans Canada Trail, which offers rugged hiking and birdwatching.
  • A visit to the nearby town of Grenfell to see the historic grain elevators and local museum.

The area is also home to several golf courses within a 30-minute drive, offering a chance to enjoy the valley’s unique topography from the green.

In my opinion Crooked lake is one of the best campgrounds in Saskatchewan. The campsites are all well treed and private. It's also relatively close to home for us, so not too expensive to pull our camper out there.

Very nice camping. Only complaint is there are no signs at the water fill stations. People think it's a place to wash their dishes. Other parks have a friendly sign asking not to wash dishes at each fill station. Other than that this park is very well maintained. Highly recommend if your looking for a peaceful camping trip.

Poor map to get to #78, there is no loop around as the map shows! So, not just us that had to back up our unit down the road to make a turn around. Not great campground for big units as trees are not cut back. There are some gems of sites, though. No staff most times at check in so be sure to bring cell phone to take picture of map. Firewood is dry, if there is any at all. The highway to this park is horrible. Very small park, limited hiking paths, but does has modern service centre. Great if all you wanna do is fish and boat. There is a playground and mini golf. And the lake has green algae on it. Positive: the small campground boasts a new service centre.

Have been coming to this lake for 28 years. Finally camped here and love it! The sites are beautiful, we had a waterfront which was gorgeous and very spacious! Bathrooms are also very nice and well maintained.

Very clean, very quiet. Friendly and helpful staff. Grounds are well maintained. Water, firewood and electrical are all conveniently located and in working condition.
