Cuivre River
Overview
Cuivre River State Park offers a unique landscape in Troy, Missouri, blending Ozark-like hills with native prairies. As one of the largest and most diverse state parks in the region, it provides a scenic escape for RVers looking to immerse themselves in nature. The park covers over 6,000 acres, featuring rugged woodlands and limestone bluffs that feel miles away from the hustle of suburban life. It is an ideal destination for those seeking a quiet, natural retreat without sacrificing essential camping comforts.
Location & Surroundings
Situated in Lincoln County, just a short drive from the historic town of Troy, MO, the park acts as a preserved wilderness corridor. While it is less than an hour from the St. Louis metropolitan area, the environment shifts dramatically into sinkholes, caves, and deep forests. The surrounding area is characterized by the Cuivre River and the 65-acre Lincoln Lake, providing a rich riparian habitat that supports diverse local wildlife, including white-tailed deer and wild turkeys.
Amenities & Park Features
The park offers a variety of camping options, including electric hookups for RV travelers across multiple loops. Guests have access to modern restrooms, hot showers, and a convenient dump station. For those traveling with horses, there are dedicated equestrian campsites. The park also features a swimming beach at Lincoln Lake, several shaded picnic shelters, and an extensive trail system. While the sites are more rustic than a private resort, they provide spacious layouts that accommodate a variety of rig sizes.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
Outdoor recreation is the primary draw, with over 30 miles of trails for hiking, biking, and horseback riding. The Big Sugar Creek Trail is a favorite for its scenic views of the surrounding hills and seasonal wildflowers. Water enthusiasts can enjoy kayaking and fishing on Lincoln Lake or exploring the river banks. For a change of pace, the nearby city of Troy offers local dining and shopping, while the nearby vineyards of the Missouri wine country are a short drive away.
Who This Park Is Best For
This park is a perfect match for nature lovers and families who prefer a traditional state park experience over a commercial RV resort. It is best for travelers who enjoy birdwatching, photography, and active outdoor recreation in a peaceful setting. Because of its proximity to major highways, it also serves as an excellent weekend getaway for regional residents or a quiet multi-day stop for cross-country RVers looking to explore the natural beauty of the Midwest.
