Cultus Lake Provincial Park (Maple Bay Campground)

Overview

Cultus Lake Provincial Park is a premier destination in the Fraser Valley, with Maple Bay Campground serving as one of its most popular hubs for outdoor enthusiasts. Located on the eastern shore of the lake, this campground offers a classic Pacific Northwest experience defined by towering Douglas fir trees and easy water access. It is a place where families and nature lovers gather to trade city noise for the sounds of the forest and the gentle lapping of the lake.

Location & Surroundings

Situated just a short drive south of Chilliwack, BC, the park is nestled at the foot of the Cascade Mountains. Maple Bay is characterized by its lush, green canopy and its proximity to the calm waters of Cultus Lake. The surrounding area is a mix of dense wilderness and developed recreational zones, providing a beautiful backdrop of mountain peaks and crystal-clear water that makes it feel worlds away from the nearby urban centers.

Amenities & Park Features

While Maple Bay offers a more rustic experience without electrical or water hookups, it provides essential comforts for RVers. The park features paved roads and spacious pads that can accommodate various rig sizes, though travelers should check specific site lengths during booking. On-site facilities include clean flush toilets and hot shower buildings located conveniently throughout the loops. The campground also provides a sani-dump station and fresh water fill area for departing rigs. Every site is equipped with a large picnic table and fire ring, encouraging a traditional camping atmosphere.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

The primary draw is the lake itself, where visitors enjoy swimming, paddleboarding, and kayaking. A dedicated boat launch at Maple Bay makes it easy to get on the water for a day of fishing or powerboating. For those who prefer land-based adventures, the hike up Teapot Hill offers panoramic views of the valley and lake. Just outside the park gates, the Cultus Lake community offers a waterpark, golf courses, and an adventure park, ensuring there is plenty of variety for all ages.

Who This Park Is Best For

This campground is ideal for self-contained RV travelers who prioritize natural beauty and recreational access over luxury resort amenities. It is a fantastic choice for families seeking an active vacation filled with swimming and hiking in a forested setting. Because of its proximity to Vancouver and the Fraser Valley, it is also perfect for weekend explorers looking for a quick but immersive escape into the great outdoors without a long drive.

Cultus Lake is a beautiful spot in Chilliwack! The crystal clear water, stunning scenery and there’s also so much to do such as swimming (of course not in winter), kayaking, hiking, or just relaxing by the lake. It’s clean, peaceful, and perfect for a day out with family or friends.

We had a fantastic time there on the water! The weather was perfect and our friend's place in the residential area was a few steps from the lake. If you go, definitely recommend you to book a place in advance. Be prepared to pay though during peak season. The water was cool because the weather just started to warm back up. But with a few days of higher temperatures, it'll definitely be warmer. The scenery is picturesque, and the water is very calm. Even with some speed boaters around, you'll have a great time kayaking and pedalboarding!

In love with this beautiful lake; so peaceful and charming. Not over crowded at all. Enjoyed some quality time with family; views were amazing. You must drive to the village and houses on top;

It's a beautiful well keep provincial park. One of the best parks so closed to the city. The big parking lot is just next to the big lawn. It's really good for the families with seniors and little kids. It's a quiet park on weekdays. You just need to bring your picnic, tables, chairs, canoe, paddle board and life jacket if you go there in summer. The lake is big enough for people enjoying the water sport. Hopefully, they will add more bathrooms there since it is super busy in summer. The parking will be a big problem in summer.

What a beautiful location!!! Plenty of room for large gatherings/families. Clean, sandy beaches. Lots of picnic tables and shaded areas. Plenty of parking. Stunning scenery. Local shops and amenities, huge theme park for children (? And adults). Great way to spend a day outdoors soaking up the sunshine!!
