Cumberland Falls State Resort Park

Overview

Known as the Niagara of the South, Cumberland Falls State Resort Park is a premier destination for RV travelers exploring the heart of the Daniel Boone National Forest. This park is famous for housing one of the largest waterfalls in the United States, stretching across a 125-foot wide curtain of water. It offers a perfect blend of rugged Kentucky wilderness and comfortable resort-style amenities, making it a staple for those traveling through the southeastern part of the state.

Location & Surroundings

Located just southwest of Corbin, KY, the park is easily accessible from Interstate 75 while feeling worlds away from the highway. The park is nestled deep within the Daniel Boone National Forest, surrounded by dense hardwoods and dramatic sandstone cliffs. The Cumberland River carves a path through the landscape, providing a constant soundtrack of rushing water and a scenic backdrop for the well-maintained campground loops.

Amenities & Park Features

The campground offers 50 RV sites equipped with electric and water hookups to accommodate various rig sizes. While it maintains a rustic atmosphere, guests have access to modern bathhouses and a central dump station. Essential park features include:

  • Sites with electric and water hookups
  • Access to the historic DuPont Lodge and restaurant
  • A seasonal swimming pool for campground guests

Beyond the sites, the park features a gift shop and meeting spaces, offering a convenient balance of nature and comfort for all visitors.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

The main draw is the Moonbow, a rare lunar rainbow visible during full moons. Travelers can explore over 17 miles of hiking trails, including the popular path to Eagle Falls. For those seeking adventure, the river offers opportunities for white water rafting and fishing. Just a short drive away in Corbin, history buffs can visit the original KFC site, known as the Harland Sanders Café and Museum.

Who This Park Is Best For

This park is ideal for nature enthusiasts and families who want an immersive outdoor experience without sacrificing basic comforts. It is a fantastic choice for photographers hoping to capture the elusive moonbow or the mist of the falls. Epic location. Super beautiful area with lots of hiking and sights. The falls are really cool and there are tons of angels you can look at. We stayed in a Cabin. It was very easy to book and the staff were super friendly and helpful. The cabin itself was a bit old and the heater only heated the top half. Was pretty cold at night. I really wanted a wood fire place and it only had a gas one in ours. :-/ We also stayed for the TG buffet. It was good. Not expensive and were taken care of quickly. Overall it was a nice place and would go back.

The cabin, which is a duplex is just the bare minimum. It worked for us. We couldve used some heat or an extra blanket. Had a good night's sleep and coffee in the morning. Thats all we needed. You have to drive into Corbin to get food if the restaurant isn't open, which was our case. We got take out and ate at the falls. There were hardly any people there. It was lovely.

The park is gorgeous! Love that there are paved trails so a wheelchair, stroller, walker, etc are able to go down the path to see the falls and river. The park was VERY busy. We arrived on a Friday around noon. The main parking lot was full so we crossed the bridge to a pull-off parking lot. There was a trail head that took us to the opposite side of the river! Perfect! We got to see the falls, took a strenuous hike to another waterfall, and there were few people. This trail is not paved and is a level 8 out of 10 for difficulty. LOVED it!

One of the best places to go when I want to just get away. The falls are amazing. There's easy access for those who can walk flat surfaces. There are trails and stairs for those who want to put in a little more effort. There's a small beach area at the for of the falls where pet owners take their dogs to play in the water. It's amazing!!

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Cumberland Falls SRP. Nice historic lodge with all modern amenities. Very clean room but the queen room was little small. Comfortable bed. Very quiet easy sleeping room. The lunch buffet was good, the dinner buffet was great, restaurant staff most excellent hospitality. The only option continental breakfast was sad for those that enjoy a hearty breakfast. Great location near the gorgeous waterfall. Easy parking.
