Cutsforth Park (Morrow County Park)

Overview

Cutsforth Park offers a refreshing escape nestled deep within the Blue Mountains of Eastern Oregon. As a premier Morrow County facility, this mountain retreat provides a lush, shaded environment that stands in stark contrast to the surrounding high desert. Travelers will find themselves surrounded by towering trees and the gentle sounds of Willow Creek, creating an atmosphere of immediate relaxation and natural beauty.

Location & Surroundings

Located approximately 22 miles southeast of Heppner, the park sits at an elevation of nearly 4,000 feet. The journey to the park takes visitors through the scenic Blue Mountain Scenic Byway, offering stunning vistas of the rugged landscape. The park itself is a verdant oasis, where the dense forest canopy provides ample shade and a significant break from the summer heat found in lower elevations.

Amenities & Park Features

The park features well-maintained RV sites designed to accommodate various rig sizes. Key features include:

  • Water and electrical hookups for guest convenience.
  • Access to clean restrooms and hot showers.
  • A centrally located on-site dump station for RV maintenance.

Additionally, the park offers picnic shelters, horseshoe pits, and a playground, while the paved interior roads simplify navigation for larger rigs through the timber.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Adventure seekers often use the park as a basecamp for exploring the Morrow County OHV Park, which is accessible via connecting trails. Anglers can enjoy the stocked fishing pond located right on the grounds or try their luck in the creek. The area is also a haven for wildlife viewing and hiking, with numerous trails weaving through the surrounding timberland and high-mountain meadows.

Who This Park Is Best For

This destination is ideal for outdoor enthusiasts who appreciate a rustic, quiet atmosphere over a busy resort setting. It is a fantastic choice for families looking for a traditional camping experience and for off-road riders wanting easy access to trail systems. If you are seeking a cool, forested sanctuary to disconnect and enjoy the Great Outdoors, this park fits your travel style perfectly.

A lovely campground / park 20 miles outside of Heppner - in contrast to the rolling yellow-green hills of Heppner, this is in the forest and much cooler than Heppner temperatures - we were at a tent site close to the entrance (e.g., campground host RV, office, big garbage bin). I loved the big trees, the sound of the little creek nearby, the new pine picnic tables, and the campfire ring. You can access the Willow Creek Trail 3063 (7 plus miles) right at the edge of the Park. There is no cell service. The bathrooms are exceptionally large, clean, and include showers - it felt luxurious but the Park was only 1/3 full so maybe gets crowded later in summer. Friendly and helpful camp host Don and his dogs Bruno and Sassy really do make the place even better!

Discovered this gem last weekend. Camp Host was informative, pleasant, and easy to talk to. Great experience. Nice clean showers and restrooms. The sites were clean with ample space. Great pond for fishing with Willow Creek running through the campground. Returning sooner than later! Thank you!

We had a great stay at Cutsforth! Sites 28 & 29 are great for two groups staying together; Sites 11-14 are definitely ideal for a group, they're so close together it would be awkward if you don't know your neighbors. Sites 31+ are beautiful but could require some pro-level trailer backing moves and are a bit of a hike to the bathroom if you aren't self-contained. Vault toilets were kept amazingly clean, firewood was a good deal with a "rick" measurement rather than skimpy bundles. Not much to do for nearby entertainment, but we took the 5mi round-trip hike to Coalmine Hill Campground and went into Heppner for a day (nothing to do there, besides a playground and Family Dollar for kid entertainment). Zero cell service (Verizon and T-Mobile) gave us the opportunity to truly unplug and enjoy nature...with no mosquitoes! Beautiful new, large picnic tables at many of the sites.
