Cyprus Lake Campground

“Cyprus lake campground - where recreation and total compliance go hand in hand”. I’ve been going to Cyprus lake for over thirty years, my most recent experience wasn’t pleasant. Trying to show my children the joys of camping at a young age and (2+4yo) the park staff didn’t make this very easy or pleasant. Most notably one warden. With kids, particularly camping, you need to keep some of their creature comforts close by. Despite having our tents on the pad, and both cars parked on the gravel and well out of the roadway - this is a crime against the park for some reason. Park warden on duty that day gave us half hour (at dinner time!! We were visibly preparing our dinner during his convo) to move our vehicle to a lot ten minutes walk away. They were totally inflexible and without any understanding in this matter. Also worth noting - we did pay for the permit allowing the second vehicle at the campsite. So, to not have that vehicle allowed at the site was quite surprising to us indeed, and at the very least - it was not well indicated whatsoever the limitations of such a permit. I stay in parks across Canada, and appreciate the more rugged feel of the Fed and Prov gov’t run ones (and up to this date would have given all of them a five star rate without question) but if you’re going up to Cyprus - you’ll probably be better served to find one of the privately run campgrounds - they’re a business and so, presumably will be somewhat more invested in facilitating your enjoyment on the premises, unlike the experience I had here most recently in August 2021. Rating breakdown: Five star for the landscape and natural location, condition of the grounds, and zero star for park operations. Averaged to two star review for failing to uphold the Parks Canada mandate and charter.

Beautiful, well maintained campgrounds, with gorgeous views. We stayed in the birches area, where the pull through campsites made entering & exiting a breeze. The bathrooms were always very clean when we went (however, we did go at the end of Sept so the park was not full). Staff were always pleasant at the gate and check-in office. One thing we weren't a fan of was the fire pits. Some were the rounded shape with an attached grill you can swing over or off easily mid fire. Ours was a square with a large grate that you have to move over, and wouldn't be able to remove as it was quite hot. The trails were wonderful and the signage was very helpful at the Head of Trails. It's a very quick and straight drive into town if you need anything or want to take a boat tour (highly recommend!!) Looking forward to returning to this campground soon!

Much better washrooms and showers since it changed from a provincial park to a federal park.

Stayed at Tamarack site 275. Nice setup with two benches. Registration could have been a bit more efficient but overall great.
