Daingerfield
Overview
Daingerfield State Park, often referred to as the Cathedral of the Pines, offers a serene escape within the towering forests of Northeast Texas. This historic park was established in the 1930s by the Civilian Conservation Corps, and their craftsmanship remains visible in the sturdy stone structures found throughout the grounds. Centered around the tranquil 80-acre Lake Douglas, the park provides a lush, green backdrop that changes beautifully with the seasons, making it a favorite for RVers seeking a quiet connection with nature.
Location & Surroundings
Situated just outside the town of Daingerfield in Morris County, the park is a prime example of the Texas Piney Woods ecosystem. The landscape is dominated by massive loblolly pines, oaks, and sweetgums that create a dense, protective canopy over the campsites. The air here is often filled with the scent of pine and the sounds of local woodland birds. Its location offers a secluded feel while remaining easily accessible for those traveling through the northeastern corner of the state along Highway 49.
Amenities & Park Features
RV travelers will find well-maintained camping loops designed to accommodate various rig sizes. The Dogwood and Big Pine camping areas feature sites with full hookups, including water, sewer, and electricity. The park is equipped with clean restrooms and shower facilities, along with a historic dance pavilion that serves as a community hub. For recreation, visitors can enjoy boat rentals, a dedicated swimming area, and several miles of hiking trails that wind through the hills and along the lake shoreline.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
Beyond the park boundaries, visitors can explore the charming small-town atmosphere of Daingerfield or take a short drive to the historic town of Jefferson, known for its antique shops and riverboat tours. Outdoor enthusiasts often use the park as a base to visit nearby Caddo Lake, famous for its hauntingly beautiful cypress swamps. Within the park itself, fishing for bass and catfish is a popular pastime, as is hiking the Mountain View Trail for a panoramic look at the surrounding forest.
Who This Park Is Best For
This park is ideal for travelers who prefer a rustic, natural setting over a high-traffic resort environment. It is a haven for birdwatchers and nature photographers, especially during the spring when the dogwoods bloom or in the fall when the hardwoods turn vibrant colors. Families will appreciate the calm lake waters and the safe, enclosed feel of the park, making it one of the best spots for a peaceful weekend retreat or a quiet stop on a longer Texas road trip.

Small but mighty! It's a smaller State Park but the views are incredible! We are too early for the Fall colors but that didn't even matter, everything was still beautiful! Loved it!

The park rangers were super nice! The bathrooms were dated but pretty clean as far as camp grounds go. The park is beautiful and Gods artwork in nature is beautiful. We had a wonderful picnic next to the lake and it was so peaceful.

It was built in 1935-1936. Remodeled in 2011. It will be the camping experience that you allow it to be. Most of the slips are backward to most RV campers. However, with a little creativity, you can make your spot really choice. Deer, rabbits, squirrels, and a wood thrush will keep you entertained.

This is such a serine and beautiful park. Great place to bird watch, hike, and go swimming. We stayed in cabin 2. It was a short walk from the lake, with beautiful view of the trees. The cabin has a bathroom with a shower. Toilet paper was provided. You have to bring everything else, linens, towels, cooking utensils. Kitchenette has 2 electric burners, coffee maker, microwave and a fridge. The cabin was well maintained and clean.

This was a wonderful park to stay at. Site 26 was the perfect spot. Close to the restrooms and showers, far enough from the water for less bugs but close enough to go for a short walk to see the views. Tons of benches throughout the park to stop and view the scenery. The swim beach was clean. The bathrooms very very clean and very modern. The park staff were very nice and accommodating. Would return.
