Dakota Campground

Overview

Dakota Campground offers a welcoming and practical atmosphere for travelers navigating the vast South Dakota plains. Located conveniently near the intersection of major transit routes, it serves as a reliable home base for those visiting the famous Corn Palace or simply looking for a restful night. The park emphasizes a friendly, family-owned vibe that makes visitors feel at ease the moment they pull into their site. It balances easy interstate access with a quiet environment, making it a preferred stop for seasonal travelers and cross-country adventurers alike.

Location & Surroundings

Situated on the outskirts of Mitchell, the campground is surrounded by the wide-open landscapes and big skies typical of the region. The location is strategically chosen to provide easy off-and-on access to Interstate 90, yet it remains far enough from the main road to mitigate heavy traffic noise. Guests are just a short drive from the heart of town, where they can find local diners, grocery stores, and essential services. This proximity allows RVers to enjoy a rural feel without sacrificing the convenience of modern urban amenities and shopping.

Amenities & Park Features

The park is well-equipped to handle modern RVs of all sizes, featuring level pull-through sites that simplify the setup process for large motorhomes and trailers. Each site provides full hookups, including 30 and 50-amp electrical service to keep your rig fully powered. On-site facilities include a seasonal swimming pool, which is a favorite for cooling off during the warm summer months. Additionally, travelers can take advantage of the clean laundry facilities and private showers. For those traveling with children or pets, the playground and open green spaces provide plenty of room for daily exercise.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

The most iconic nearby landmark is the World’s Only Corn Palace, a unique folk-art destination decorated with murals made of corn and grains. History enthusiasts should not miss the Mitchell Prehistoric Indian Village, which offers a fascinating look into the region’s ancient inhabitants. For outdoor recreation, Lake Mitchell is just a short drive away, offering opportunities for fishing, hiking, and boating. Additionally, the massive Cabela’s showroom in Mitchell is a must-visit for any outdoor enthusiast looking for gear or local wildlife displays.

Who This Park Is Best For

This campground is ideal for cross-country RV travelers who value convenience and a hassle-free parking experience. It is particularly well-suited for families who appreciate having a pool and playground to keep the kids entertained after a long day on the road. Because of its spacious site layouts, it is also a top choice for owners of large fifth-wheels or Class A motorhomes. If you are looking for a clean, accessible, and friendly stopover while exploring the treasures of South Dakota, this park fits the bill perfectly.

The man who helped us was wonderful and helpful. It’s a decent place that’s flat. We were able to use power but not water at this time of year at the sites but they did fill it for us before we left at the building, which we are grateful for. There isn’t much gravel and there was standing water/ mud, which made things messy, but a peaceful little haven nonetheless

Family friendly campground just outside Mitchell. Close by to shopping and I-90. Quiet and restful night. Nice pool and playground. Lots offer full hookups and mature trees gave shade to the park. Fully enjoyed our stay.

Beautiful campground. Super well maintained and very easy to get around. Plus the laundromat and showers are an added bonus. Unfortunately my tent blew away during a storm so I wasn't able to sleep here for very long but will definitely come again

Great campground just off i90, and with shade! Bathrooms very clean. Sites level. You can hear the interstate noise when outside. We didn't hear it in our rig. We'll definitely stay here again! With our Good Sam discount it was $35 for electric and water. 30 amp.

Very nice, very reasonably priced campsite. Stopped to use the laundry which was great. Machines were not expensive a buck 50 for washer and a dollar for dryer. Both in good shape. Grounds were well maintained. For being in off the highway campground is absolutely sufficient with many many trees only drawback his sites are close to each other.
