Overview

Dakota Sunsets RV Park & Campground offers a peaceful retreat in the heart of South Dakota's prairie landscape. Located in the small town of Salem, this park provides a quiet environment away from the noise of the interstate while remaining easily accessible for travelers. It serves as a comfortable base for those exploring the southeastern region of the state or passing through on a long-haul journey. The atmosphere is defined by **wide-open views** and a slower pace of life that reflects the charm of the rural Midwest.

Situated just north of I-90, the park is surrounded by **vast agricultural fields** and the rolling plains characteristic of the Dakotas. Salem itself is a welcoming community where travelers can find basic necessities and local dining. The location is strategically positioned between the larger cities of Sioux Falls and Mitchell, making it an ideal midpoint. Visitors often appreciate the **stunning sunsets** that paint the sky over the horizon, providing a scenic backdrop to their evening campfires.

The campground is designed with convenience in mind, offering **spacious pull-thru sites** that accommodate larger rigs with ease. Each site typically includes full hookups with both 30 and 50-amp electrical service. Guests have access to essential facilities to make their stay comfortable:

  • Modern **shower and restroom facilities** kept in clean condition.
  • Convenient on-site laundry machines for long-term travelers.
  • Designated pet-friendly areas for those traveling with animals.

Each site also features a picnic table and fire ring, encouraging guests to enjoy the fresh prairie air during their stay.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

A short drive away is **Lake Vermillion Recreation Area**, which is popular for fishing, swimming, and boating. Travelers can also take a day trip to Mitchell to see the famous **World's Only Corn Palace** or head east to Sioux Falls to explore the waterfalls at Falls Park. These nearby destinations provide a mix of natural beauty and unique cultural landmarks.

Who This Park Is Best For

This park is an excellent choice for **cross-country travelers** looking for a reliable and quiet place to rest along the I-90 corridor. It appeals strongly to retirees and families who prefer a low-key environment over a high-activity resort. Very nice place. Beautiful, level sites in a well maintained campground. Big Rig Friendly! People were very nice, and helpful as well. Would definitely book again.

There are many transients living in the campground. The mosquitoes are horrible in summer, the flies were horrible in late Sept. There must be a large feed lot nearby, because the smell is horrible and that may explain the volume of flies ! I mean, I have never seen flies like this anywhere ! We will never stay here again !

Great spot if you’re traveling though and need a quick place to sleep right off the freeway! Easy to find, easy to book and easy to check in and out. The campground itself was clean and well taken care of. We had a great experience!

Nice quiet campground! Stayed 1 night here on our travels! Kids loved the play grounds, dog park, shaded, showers, firewoood, and well kept! Beautiful sunsets!

Great campground with easy access from highway. Level campsites with mature shade trees. Very quiet spot with laundry available. This is a self check in campground, as we did not see any staff the whole time we were here.
