Dannelly Lake - COE/Six Mile Creek
Overview
Dannelly Lake - COE/Six Mile Creek offers a serene escape along the banks of the Alabama River. Managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, this park provides a classic outdoor experience centered around the expansive William "Bill" Dannelly Reservoir. It is a place where the pace of life slows down, allowing visitors to trade the sound of traffic for the gentle lapping of water against the shore. The park is well-maintained and provides a natural setting that showcases the beauty of the Alabama Black Belt region.
Location & Surroundings
Situated just south of Selma, the park is nestled within a lush landscape of mixed hardwoods and towering pines. The Alabama River serves as the primary backdrop, creating a tranquil environment that feels worlds away from urban centers. Because of its location on the reservoir, the air is often cooler near the water, and the surrounding forests provide ample shade for the campsites. This secluded pocket of nature is ideal for those who enjoy waking up to the sight of mist rising over the river.
Amenities & Park Features
The facility features 33 spacious campsites designed to accommodate various rig sizes. RVers will find essential comforts to make their stay enjoyable:
- Campsites with electric and water hookups and level pads.
- A convenient improved boat ramp for easy river access.
- Clean bathhouse facilities with hot showers and laundry equipment.
A dump station is located on-site, and a picnic pavilion provides a shaded space for larger groups to gather and enjoy the river views. The sites are known for being well-spaced, offering more privacy than typical commercial parks.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
Fishing is the main draw here, as the reservoir is famous for its crappie and bass fishing opportunities. Beyond the water, history enthusiasts can take a short drive to Selma to visit the historic Edmund Pettus Bridge or explore the Old Cahawba Archaeological Park, which preserves the site of Alabama's first state capital. The area is also part of the Alabama Birding Trail, offering excellent chances to spot osprey, bald eagles, and various waterfowl throughout the seasons.
Who This Park Is Best For
This park is an ideal destination for avid anglers and boaters who want direct access to the water. It also appeals to history buffs looking for a quiet base camp while exploring Alabama’s rich cultural heritage. Visiting here with a group of 3 motorcycle riders doing the South East Backcountry Discovery Route. The sites were clean. Bathroom/shower is climate controlled, clean, with hot water and good pressure. Would visit again and do recommend. Rebecca, the grounds keeper was kind as well.

Nice Corps Park. There had been fairly recent flooding, but most of area had been cleaned up.

Run down campground. Roads are broken. No cleaning going on. Would not recommend.

The Hoste Anan (I'm not sure of the name) was very helpful and friendly answered our question and helped us move to a location close to the bathroom. The park was clean and we fell safe. We walked down the entrance road for over a 3 mile and the road was tree lined and was like walking into the past every one that past waved and obe stopped to ask we need a ride. We will be back and tell all of our frends.

It's a nice camp ground with showers, bathrooms, laundry room and playgrounds. The lots are maintained but not perfect. There is no docks on any of the lost and hard access to you boat if you feel like pulling it up on land. Although the campground is nice it could use keeping up a little better. There is no cellphone service at this park.
