Davis Creek Campground
Overview
Davis Creek Campground offers a serene escape within the Washoe County Regional Park system, located just south of Reno. This park serves as a gateway to the high desert and alpine landscapes of Northern Nevada. Unlike high-traffic commercial resorts, this destination provides a natural, forested setting with towering Jeffrey pines that offer ample shade. It is an ideal spot for travelers seeking a quiet retreat where the sound of the wind through the trees and the proximity to Davis Creek define the experience.
Location & Surroundings
Situated in New Washoe City, the campground sits at an elevation that offers a refreshing break from the valley heat. The park is nestled at the base of the Carson Range, providing a dramatic backdrop of mountain peaks. Its location is strategically positioned between the urban energy of Reno and the historic charm of Carson City. The surrounding terrain includes scenic wetlands and the neighboring Washoe Lake, creating a diverse ecosystem perfect for birdwatching and photography.
Amenities & Park Features
The campground features 62 sites designed to accommodate both tents and smaller RVs. While there are no individual hookups at the sites, the park provides essential comforts including clean restrooms and hot showers available for a small fee. Each site is equipped with a picnic table and a fire ring. For RVers, there is a centralized dump station and fresh water access nearby. The park’s layout prioritizes privacy and immersion in nature over paved luxury, with sites tucked away among the rocks and trees.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
Outdoor enthusiasts will find plenty to do without leaving the park boundaries. The Ophir Creek Trail is a highlight, offering a challenging hike into the Sierra Nevada wilderness. Families often enjoy the small pond on-site, which is frequently stocked for fishing. Just a short drive away, you can explore Washoe Lake State Park for boating or visit the historic Bowers Mansion. Its proximity to Highway 395 also makes it a perfect basecamp for day trips to Lake Tahoe or Virginia City.
Who This Park Is Best For
This park is best suited for dry campers and owners of smaller RVs or camper vans who value tranquility and direct access to hiking trails. It is perfect for those who prefer a rustic camping experience over a traditional RV resort environment. If your travel style involves stargazing, morning hikes, and a slower pace of life, Davis Creek Campground provides the perfect Nevada backdrop. It is particularly popular with nature lovers and photographers looking for a quiet alternative to busier tourist hubs.

It must’ve been 56 or 57 years ago. My dad and I used to play horseshoes at the pits. I was down there today and I seen the pits are still there but they needed a little cleanup. I asked my grandsons would they be interested in coming down and we could bring some horseshoes and play that it would be good memories When my father and I used to play there .

A wonderful place to hike, fish, and camp. It’s wonderful to be under Slide Mountain (hopefully it doesn’t slide again) and all of the nature is beautiful. Campsites were clean and well-kept. Bathrooms had plumbing and heaters. A great spot! I’d definitely come back again.

Beautiful large campground nestled in the woods! The spots are very pretty but they’re close together so if you don’t have the best neighbors that can be annoying. Each comes with a fire ring, picnic table, and bear box which is nice. Several options for hiking trails short and long right next to the campsite, beautiful hikes too.
