Deer Island Point Campground

Overview

Deer Island Point Campground offers a unique coastal experience at the southernmost tip of Deer Island in New Brunswick. Known for its proximity to the Bay of Fundy, this park provides travelers with a front-row seat to some of the highest tides in the world. The atmosphere here is distinctly peaceful, trading the flashiness of modern resorts for unrivaled natural beauty and a slow-paced island lifestyle that encourages guests to disconnect and enjoy the crisp sea air. It is a place where the rhythm of the ocean dictates the pace of your day.

Location & Surroundings

The park is situated in Cummings Cove, reachable by a scenic free ferry ride from L'Etete on the mainland. Its most famous neighbor is the Old Sow Whirlpool, the largest natural whirlpool in the Western Hemisphere, which is visible from the shoreline during certain tidal changes. Surrounded by the rugged coastline of the Fundy Isles, the campground is immersed in a landscape of rocky outcrops and dense evergreens. The constant presence of the ocean defines the surroundings, offering cool breezes and the soothing sound of waves hitting the shore.

Amenities & Park Features

This is a traditional campground that focuses on the essentials for a comfortable outdoor stay. It features water and electric hookups suitable for most RVs, alongside more secluded spots for tent campers. Facilities include clean washrooms, hot showers, and a convenient on-site dumping station for self-contained rigs. Families will appreciate the playground and open green spaces, while everyone benefits from the direct access to the shoreline. The park is designed to maximize the views, ensuring that the majestic scenery remains the primary amenity for every guest.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Adventure starts right at the water's edge, where visitors often spot seals and minke whales directly from the cliffs. A short drive leads to the seasonal ferry to Campobello Island, where you can visit the Roosevelt Campobello International Park. On Deer Island itself, travelers can explore various fishing villages, enjoy local seafood, or take a guided kayak tour to get a closer look at the diverse marine life and coastal caves that make this region a premier destination for nature enthusiasts and birdwatchers.

Who This Park Is Best For

This campground is ideal for nature photographers and wildlife watchers who want to be steps away from the action. It serves as a perfect retreat for RVers who prefer a rustic, authentic maritime experience over a high-traffic urban resort. If your travel style involves watching the tide come in, spotting bald eagles overhead, and enjoying quiet nights under a star-filled sky, this island gem provides the quiet sanctuary you are looking for during your New Brunswick adventure.

We were just visiting for the afternoon. The improvements and updates to the area around the lighthouse are spectacular. A huge congrats to those involved. Always do at one trip each year to D.I. Point campground.

This rustic campground is right on the ocean edge overlooking Eastport, Maine and Campobello, New Brunswick. Many sites have power but no sewer although there is a dumping station available. The prices are reasonable too. There are also some very unique un-serviced water's edge tent sites that are amazing. This campground is not pretending to be 5 star so as long as you know that, it is a nice place to camp.

We stayed in a wilderness site for a few days so we knew what we were going into. There was a single outhouse about 100m away from our site. No electricity or potable water available but there’s a tap a short walk away for washing dishes or handwashing. They sell some smaller drinking water bottles at the shop and there are a few stores on the island that sell 4L bottles. Beautiful views on our side, lots of fun exploring to do. We could see seals and porpoises from our site and even saw a minke whale breeze by. Lots of sea birds and birds of prey, too. We enjoyed the peace and quiet away from the main campground. It was quite busy. Our composting latrine was cleaned daily and all the staff we interacted with were super friendly. Other campers on wilderness side were very friendly, too. The place could definitely use some water upgrades on the site and a few more bathrooms and showers but it’s a nice place to spend some days with family. Don’t think about swimming. The water is freezing. A quick dip then enjoy some sun on the beach. The main office has great ice cream and other snacks as well. We’ll be back!

This campground has real potential but unfortunately it’s poorly run. Right off the bat no debit and you better bring your own water cause you can’t drink the water. No washrooms all weekend they explained there was a water problem but they obviously don’t care because it was never fixed. If you’re tenting you better have a small tent because the sites have maybe 2 square feet of level ground. The campground has great views but the problems don’t out way this please avoid !!!!!

The most disgusting outhouses ever experienced, making a portopotty used by construction workers seem palatial! Have they ever been cleaned? An absolute disgrace. Have you been reported to health department. If not I will be happy to do you that service!
