Delabar

Overview

Delabar State Park serves as a serene sanctuary for those traveling through western Illinois. Located along the banks of the mighty Mississippi River, this state park covers approximately 89 acres of heavily wooded land. It offers a classic camping environment where visitors can disconnect from the digital world and reconnect with nature. The park is well-known for its towering trees and its prime position along the river's edge, making it a popular choice for traditional RV enthusiasts.

Location & Surroundings

You will find this park just north of Oquawka, nestled within Henderson County. The site is characterized by its dense forest canopy and proximity to the river, which dominates the local landscape. The surrounding region is primarily agricultural and small-town in nature, ensuring that the air remains fresh and the nights stay dark and quiet. It is an excellent representative of the natural beauty found along the Illinois side of the river bluffs.

Amenities & Park Features

The campground features 89 well-spaced sites, including many with electrical hookups for RVers who need power for their systems. Guests have access to essential facilities to make their stay comfortable:

  • Sanitary dump station for easy waste management
  • Frost-free water hydrants located throughout the grounds
  • Two large picnic shelters for group gatherings
  • Numerous shaded picnic tables at individual sites

While there are no full sewer hookups at individual sites, the layout remains manageable for most medium-sized trailers and motorhomes seeking a traditional, nature-focused stay.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

The primary draw here is the Mississippi River, which offers exceptional opportunities for fishing and boating. A functional boat ramp makes it easy to get out on the water for a day of exploring the river's many channels. Just a short drive away, history buffs can visit the historic Oquawka Wagon Bridge, a unique local landmark. The park also features a small trail system perfect for morning walks, where hikers often spot deer and various forest birds.

Who This Park Is Best For

This location is best suited for travelers who prefer a scenic and tranquil atmosphere over high-end resort amenities. It is a favorite for birdwatchers, especially during the winter months when bald eagles are frequently spotted near the water. RVers who are touring the Great River Road and want a nature-focused stopover with plenty of shade will find Delabar to be a highlight of their journey. It is perfect for those who value peace, quiet, and direct river access.

Grass needed mowed. No envelopes to pay for camping. 1 day someone came and collected garbage. Otherwise beautiful quiet park.

Rather unimpressive, but great for those who want a quiet walk in the woods. The hiking trail is 2 miles.

Park is very quiet. There is electric hook up at each of the 54 sites. Plenty of outhouse-style bathrooms. Dump station and water fill station. Handicap spots are concrete pads. Plenty of grills and picnic stations. Not the most modern but…hey, you’re camping! Boat dock right on the river. Lots of shade. Relaxing.

It's a nice quiet little Park RVs can camp there people some residents live out there pretty quiet all in all I know they have facilities very limited. I grew up in area and have spent a lot of time there. Also a boat launch, I don't know the hours there or the season I think it ends in September 30th?
