RV Park

Overview

Overview

Riley Creek Campground serves as the primary basecamp for visitors arriving at the entrance of Denali National Park. This spacious, wooded campground offers a quintessential Alaskan wilderness experience, placing guests directly within the park boundaries. Managed by the National Park Service, it provides a quiet, natural setting where you can wake up to the sights and sounds of the northern forest. It is the perfect starting point for those looking to immerse themselves in the raw, untouched beauty of interior Alaska.

Location & Surroundings

Situated near the park entrance at Mile 0.2 of the Denali Park Road, Riley Creek provides convenient access to both the park visitor center and the surrounding wilderness. The campground is nestled among a boreal forest of spruce trees, which offers privacy and a sense of seclusion despite its proximity to the entrance area. The surrounding landscape is characterized by rolling hills, nearby creeks, and the potential for spotting local wildlife like snowshoe hares and moose wandering through the camp.

Amenities & Park Features

The campground is designed for those who appreciate a traditional camping experience. While it does not offer electrical, water, or sewer hookups, it is fully accommodating for RVs and trailers up to 40 feet in length. Guests have access to a potable water station, a dump station, and modern flush toilets. The park also provides large, level gravel pads and fire pits, allowing visitors to enjoy an evening campfire under the expansive northern sky.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Staying at Riley Creek puts you within walking distance of the Denali Visitor Center, where you can explore exhibits, watch educational films, and speak with park rangers. The extensive network of hiking trails is easily accessible, ranging from gentle strolls along the creek to more challenging treks into the hills. Additionally, the park shuttle buses depart nearby, providing essential transit for exploring the deeper interior of the park and increasing your chances of viewing iconic wildlife.

Who This Park Is Best For

Riley Creek is ideal for travelers who prioritize nature and accessibility over luxury amenities. It is a fantastic choice for tent campers and RVers who prefer an authentic, back-to-basics national park experience. It was very exciting to be camping above the artic circle. Restrooms with pit toilets were slightly messy compared to other places that we camped.

This is a dry campground with almost 150 spots and a perfect location to explore the park. Camp spots come in different prices and sizes. Small for tent camping. It's first come first serve and they do sell out, so reservations in advance are highly encouraged. There are nice hot showers and a laundry and a store (with reasonable prices) right here at the camp that is just a short walk down to Riley Creek and less than a mile to the Denali Visitor Center, although there are plenty of free shuttle buses. Hiking trails abound and wildlife is plentiful. Two moose and a grizzly bear came right through the camp yesterday. Amazing.

Campsite is narrow , but clean. Mosquitos are big and are very annoying. We stayed at Bea Loop, site #11, end of May, and close to the bathroom and nearby river trail. Definitely worth coming again!

Our time at Denali NP camping at Riley Creek campground was amazing. We were close to the visitor center, 15 minutes from Savage River and right next to hiking trails. The pricing was fair for a national park and the amenities. There were flush toilets right next to our RV site and our 40 foot 5th wheel could fit into multiple site options. We stayed for 9 nights and the camp host was amazing to load up his water bladder with a pump to fill up our fresh water for a few more days of not having to sherpa water. Generator hours were reasonable but there were lots of trees so solar was pretty lack luster. Starlink was OK but not amazing. Overall, wonderful campground and great camp hosts!

We absolutely loved our time staying at Riley Creek Campground. We loved we were able to have running water and had access to showers. Bathrooms and showers were always clean and staff were prompt to address issues. The staff were mostly helpful and friendly, but it does take them a long time to check people in or add services to your stay (bus tickets). Some staff know the park very well, while others do not. The reservation system is that you reserve a site type and then when you arrive it is first come first serve based on the site type. The sites were large and spaced out. Bears and moose regularly stroll through, so be prepared to handle wildlife.
