Deschutes/Crescent Lake Campground

Overview

Crescent Lake Campground offers a quintessential Pacific Northwest escape within the Deschutes National Forest. Situated along the crystal-clear waters of its namesake lake, this destination provides a rustic retreat for those looking to disconnect and enjoy the high-country air. Unlike modern luxury resorts, this campground emphasizes a close connection to nature, featuring sites nestled under a dense canopy of ponderosa and lodgepole pines that provide ample shade and privacy for campers.

Location & Surroundings

Located near McCredie Springs, OR, the park sits at an elevation of roughly 4,800 feet in the Cascade Mountains. The surrounding terrain is characterized by volcanic peaks and lush forests that change beautifully with the seasons. The highlight is the sandy shoreline of Crescent Lake, which offers a striking contrast to the rugged mountainous backdrop. Visitors can expect cool summer evenings and a tranquil atmosphere away from the noise of major highways, making it a true mountain sanctuary.

Amenities & Park Features

As a forest service facility, the amenities focus on the essentials for a quality primitive camping experience. While there are no utility hookups, the park provides paved parking spurs suitable for many RVs and trailers. On-site facilities include vault toilets and potable water access via hand pumps or faucets. Each site is equipped with a picnic table and a heavy-duty fire ring, perfect for evening gatherings under the stars. A convenient boat ramp is also available for easy water access.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Outdoor enthusiasts will find no shortage of activity, starting with kokanee and lake trout fishing right from the shore or a boat. The area is a gateway to the Pacific Crest Trail, offering world-class hiking opportunities through diverse alpine ecosystems. For those seeking relaxation, the nearby McCredie Hot Springs provide a natural soaking experience. During the summer, the lake’s clear waters are ideal for swimming and paddleboarding against the view of Diamond Peak.

Who This Park Is Best For

Beautiful area and lake. Large sites. Fire restrictions for no wood fires started the day we stayed, but again lot of people disregarded it.

A very clean & well maintained campground. Offers beautiful sites right on the lake. The camp hosts were so kind & very chill. Only negative was the mosquitoes so bring your bug spray!

Peaceful, relaxing, beautiful, the water is so clear it's a nice camp ground and beautiful lake. Don't miss the night view of the sky you will see the whole galaxy. The only down side is beach is made of added gravel so if you walk bare foot and have a pet be careful. Both of my friends dogs had foot injury. It was very windy and although it's a beautiful lake it's peaceful no crowds.
