Deschutes/Indian Ford Campground
Overview
Indian Ford Campground offers a classic Oregon high desert forest experience located just a few miles from the charming town of Sisters. Managed by the Deschutes National Forest, this campground provides a quiet, shaded retreat among towering Ponderosa pines. Unlike busy commercial resorts, this location focuses on providing a peaceful connection to nature, making it a favorite for those who prefer a more traditional camping atmosphere and dark, starry night skies.
Location & Surroundings
Situated along the scenic Highway 20 corridor, the park is nestled in the foothills of the Cascade Mountains. The surrounding terrain is defined by the high desert's dry forest ecosystem and the seasonal flow of Indian Ford Creek, which often draws in local mule deer and various bird species. Its location provides the perfect balance of easy highway access and deep woodland seclusion, with stunning views of the nearby volcanic peaks peeking through the timber.
Amenities & Park Features
As a forest service site, the amenities are intentionally simple to preserve the rustic environment. Visitors will find clean vault toilets and potable water accessible via seasonal hand pumps. Each individual site is equipped with a sturdy picnic table and a steel fire ring for evening campfires. While there are no electric or water hookups available, the gravel parking spurs are well-maintained and can accommodate a range of RV sizes, including some larger rigs.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
This campground serves as a primary gateway for exploring the Three Sisters Wilderness and the scenic Metolius River area. Travelers are only a short drive from the Western-themed downtown area of Sisters, which is famous for its local galleries and the annual Sisters Rodeo. Outdoor enthusiasts can spend their days hiking the challenging Black Butte Trail or mountain biking on the extensive Peterson Ridge Trail system located just minutes away.
Who This Park Is Best For
This park is an ideal fit for self-contained RVers who enjoy boondocking-style stays and value natural serenity over resort-style luxuries. It is a fantastic choice for nature photographers and hikers looking for convenient trail access without the crowds of larger commercial parks. If you prefer the sound of wind in the pines over the hum of a busy city, this site provides the authentic Oregon forest experience you are seeking.

Right off of 20 so a bit noisy. A rustic site with no hookups and only vault toilets but big sites with a hiking trail very close. Such a pretty campground and kept very clean.

Stayed here two nights on my van camping expedition. Nice place sites are large and well spread out. Pit toilet was reasonable and, on both nights, saw them cleaned early in the morning. No water. Very near the busy highway, but after 9 pm the noise isn't a problem. I enjoyed both nights because of the location near to Sisters, and its restaurants.

Right by the highway, a not an issue for myself. Yellow Jackets and flies everywhere. The spaces were not so far apart as some people would state. It's close to Sisters, so you can get anything you may need, including water as there's none on site. There were plenty of trees, but they did not equate to any shade at my site nor the several to my sides. The burn ban in the Deschutes was lifted prior to our arrival, we'd picked this site because we should have been able to have a fire, though they had posted on site for no fires. Other campgrounds at the time had listed burn bans on their reservation platforms, this one did not. One awesome thing about this site, I had great cell service, which was perfect, as it allowed us to just go to a different camp site to have a nice weekend. Others must have felt the same, as in the hour we spent on our phones looking for another campground, two people approached asking if we needed a site, because they decided they were just going to leave instead of stay the night there as well. They also would not refund, though their rules listed we were due a partial refund, but they don't have any reasonable way to reach them to resolve issues either. If you look closely in the pictures I took, you can even see a car in the background on the highway. Blurriness due to yellow jackets.

NFS campgrounds are simple. No utilities but, the settings are usually pretty and in the woods. Nice and quiet here. Close to Sisters.
