Deschutes/Link Creek Campground

Overview

Deschutes/Link Creek Campground offers a quintessential Pacific Northwest experience tucked away in the Deschutes National Forest. Located on the western edge of Suttle Lake, this campground provides a serene environment for those looking to disconnect from the modern world. It is a primitive camping destination where the scent of ponderosa pine and the sound of gentle lake waves create a tranquil backdrop for your RV journey through central Oregon.

Location & Surroundings

The park is situated approximately 14 miles west of the charming town of Sisters, Oregon. It sits at an elevation that keeps the air crisp and cool during the summer months, surrounded by a dense canopy of Douglas fir and hemlock trees. The campground’s position near Link Creek, which connects Suttle Lake to Blue Lake, makes it a prime spot for observing local wildlife and enjoying the lush scenery of the Cascade Range mountains.

Amenities & Park Features

As a National Forest site, the focus here is on nature rather than luxury. The park features essential facilities to support your stay while maintaining a rustic atmosphere:

  • Vault toilets and seasonal potable water hand pumps.
  • Individual sites equipped with a heavy-duty fire ring and picnic table.
  • Access to a nearby fish cleaning station for successful anglers.

There are no electrical, water, or sewer hookups available, so visitors should arrive with full fresh water tanks and empty waste tanks. A paved boat launch is accessible just a short distance from the camping loops for easy water access.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Outdoor enthusiasts will find no shortage of activities nearby. Suttle Lake is a hub for motorized and non-motorized boating, fishing for Kokanee salmon, and swimming. Hikers can explore the scenic loop trail around the lake or venture further to the Metolius River to see crystal-clear springs. During the winter and shoulder seasons, the nearby Hoodoo Ski Area offers additional recreation options within a very short driving distance from the camp sites.

Who This Park Is Best For

This campground is ideal for self-contained RV travelers who prioritize natural beauty and direct lake access over resort-style amenities. It is a fantastic choice for families who enjoy water sports and hikers looking for a basecamp near the Three Sisters Wilderness. If you seek a quiet, rustic atmosphere where the focus is on forest immersion and lakeside relaxation, Link Creek is an excellent fit for your travel style.

Great and very clean campground. The hosts were amazing and so accommodating. If you want to get out of the God's country this is just a small piece of it but well worth it.

Great access to Suttle lake in a small, clean campground. Very family friend and easily accessible to kayak or paddle board. You can hear a bit of road noise across from the highway but still worth the trip!

Not so good if you need any help in the cold weather months, no rangers are present. Also, they said we could we could expect a certain amount of fire wood in the yurt. What we found was kindling, and zero logs. Luckily, we came prepared to take care of our selves. So, we had a pretty good time!

Nice campground, spots are a little close to each other but it's less windy than the other end of the lake.
