Deschutes/Spring Campground

Overview

Deschutes/Spring Campground offers a quintessential Pacific Northwest camping experience within the Deschutes National Forest. Located near the pristine shores of Crescent Lake, this destination provides a serene escape for those looking to disconnect from the modern world and reconnect with nature. The campground is characterized by its towering ponderosa pines and fir trees, creating a heavily shaded and private environment for RVers and tent campers alike. It is a quiet destination that emphasizes the natural beauty of the Oregon Cascades.

Location & Surroundings

Situated in the heart of the Cascade Mountains in Central Oregon, the park sits at an elevation of approximately 4,800 feet. The landscape is dominated by majestic peaks and volcanic features typical of the region. Visitors will find themselves surrounded by dense woodlands, with Crescent Lake just a short distance away. The lake provides crystal-clear alpine waters and stunning mountain views, offering a dramatic backdrop for morning coffee or sunset walks through the tall timber.

Amenities & Park Features

This is a rustic facility designed for self-contained travel, featuring no utility hookups at the individual sites. The campground provides essential services including vault toilets and potable water available via hand pumps. Most sites are spacious enough for modest RVs and trailers, though it is important to check specific length restrictions before arrival. Each site typically includes a sturdy picnic table and a fire ring, making it easy to enjoy traditional evening campfires under the dark, star-filled skies.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Outdoor enthusiasts will find endless opportunities for adventure right outside their door. The primary draw is the water; visitors enjoy swimming, paddleboarding, and fishing for kokanee salmon. For those who prefer land-based activities, the nearby Pacific Crest Trail offers world-class hiking opportunities and breathtaking vistas. Additionally, the surrounding forest service roads are excellent for mountain biking and exploring the diverse flora and fauna found within this high-elevation transition zone.

Who This Park Is Best For

This campground is an ideal match for boondockers and nature lovers who prioritize natural scenery and privacy over luxury resort amenities. It is a perfect choice for families seeking a traditional outdoor experience and travelers looking to escape the crowds of more developed parks. If you appreciate a peaceful forest setting and easy access to high-altitude water recreation, Deschutes/Spring Campground provides a rugged and rewarding basecamp for your Oregon adventures.

What a gem of a campground. We had lake side spots and they were a good size and had beautiful views of the peak. Can’t speak for site farther from the lake. Not as easy of a swimming area as down the way but great for kayak and paddle board. Camp Hosts were great. Mosquitoes were kind of bad but not as terrible as we originally thought. One site near us was louder late into the night but that’s camping. We will for sure be back. Oregon was showing off last weekend for sure

This is definitely one of my main go-to's! It has beautiful views. The bathrooms are well maintained. There are plenty of sites to choose from. There are sites to reserve and plenty of first-come, first serve. The sites are a perfect size and they are properly spaced out. I can paddle board my heart away in this lake all day, everyday.

The spaces are huge and clean, the lake is accessible and the camp hosts are absolutely amazing! Truly a 5 star experience all the way around. We will be returning, again and again!
