Overview
Overview
Situated along the shores of Kluane Lake, Destruction Bay Lodge in Destruction Bay, Yukon Territory places travelers directly in the path of the rugged northern wilderness. This remote Yukon stopover serves as a vital frontier base for motorists navigating the historic Alaska Highway, offering a welcome resting point surrounded by towering peaks and vast subarctic landscapes.
Location & Surroundings
Positioned along Alaska Highway milepost 1083, the property sits against the dramatic backdrop of the Kluane Ranges and the Saint Elias Mountains. The local climate features crisp mountain air, sweeping winds off the glacier-fed lake, and endless daylight during peak summer travel months. Visitors approaching from Whitehorse to the southeast or Alaska to the west travel through sweeping alpine valleys and boreal forests.
Amenities & Park Features
Because specific on-site infrastructure details vary at remote northern outposts, visitors should contact management directly to confirm current hookup availability, water access, and maximum rig lengths. Travelers can generally expect a rustic staging area designed for self-contained highway travelers. Be sure to inquire about pull-through access, generator policies, and nightly registration procedures ahead of your arrival.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
The surrounding Kluane National Park and Reserve dominates the local landscape, offering world-class mountaineering, glacier viewing, and wilderness flight-seeing. Anglers can target lake trout and arctic grayling in Kluane Lake, while hikers find access to legendary trails such as the King's Throne and Slims River West. Wildlife viewing opportunities for Dall sheep, grizzly bears, and caribou are exceptional throughout the immediate region.
Who This Park Is Best For
This destination suits Alaska Highway road-trippers, wilderness photographers, and self-contained overlanders seeking a remote staging point. It appeals less to luxury resort campers and more to rugged travelers tackling the northern migration. Anyone looking to experience the raw solitude of the Canadian Northwest will find this location an ideal basecamp for northern exploration.

Jun 2024, Place is officially closed, up for sale. Sign in window says, leave $40 in mailbox, you can park and use 30a hookup, no dump or water. After overly long day from Tok, heavy rains, customs and construction delays, killing hours, this is perfect rest, pic is 11pm, one of the most stunning places you can camp.

Very basic. It has 30 amp electric, no water, sewer, or trash. It is quiet and you can see the lake in the distance. The office doesn't seem to be manned. It looks like the property is for sale.

Stopped here for lunch and the staff were super helpful, yummy fries. Great shop attached to the restaurant with souvenirs, clothing, books, postcards, foodstuff, groceries, and all sorts!! We’ll worth a stop.

We had a nice breakfast on our way through. Great waitress. So helpful and attentive. Food was good. The place was very clean. Prices fair, considering inflation and remote location. Spent time in the gift store. Interesting items, hubby bought a jacket and other items for a reminder of our trip.

Destruction Bay Lodge and RV camp is a must-see stop on the Alcan Highway. I have stayed there several times and always been highly impressed with the owner operator. Business is slow because of the restrictions on Canadian travel. The RV camp is shut down right now because of seasonal weather, but the owner is eager and hoping for a good spring season this year. I cannot stress enough you must visit this location, keep the local business alive in a location that is purely heaven.
