Devil's Lake

A gloomy day doesn't stop the beautiful view, and that is what I can say about Devil's Lake State Park! The North Shore has a beach that has very clear water for swimming. I imagine on sunny days it will be a very wholesome environment to relax in. Their visitor center is evidently curated to satisfy visitors because there are lots of items there sold as souvenirs. It is like this place is a top tourist spot itself. Then there is the South Shore, which has quite a few places of attraction like the balanced rock. The uphill hike to get to the rock (Balanced Rock Trail) is very challenging but very rewarding. After getting to the summit, you can continue onto the East Bluff Trail or the Devil's Doorway Trail. Looking down to the lake at this point feels really good. It feels like having our own Rattlesnake Mountain (Washington state). Hiking beginners may want to try the Tumbled Rocks Trail instead. Overall, very fun and very much worth multiple visits!

A beautiful park, which offers a variety of activities for all ages. We hiked around the east trail, starting uphills from the east bluffs wood trail. The walk was really pleasant, on a comfortable path. We then passed through the devils hole and balanced rock and went down on the east bluffs trail, which was more challenging, but definitely worth the effort. The views from the mountain peaks were stunning, displaying a wild scenery of the huge rocks, woods and shiny lake. It is highly recommended!

Beautiful park. First time back in 10+ years. If you’re camping, look up campsite map before arriving. Not many signs directing you to the 200+ campsites. Don’t let Google Maps lead you in the back way if you’ve got a big rig. Only one dump station. And it’s on an incline. But it is clean and well maintained.

Nice park. One day isn't enough time to see everything the park has, so plan on it taking 2 or 3 days to really explore the park. There are some challenging trails that require you to be physically fit along with easy trails that anyone should be able to handle. The balanced rock is not very well marked the park authorities could do a better job there. Its very easy to walk right past it and not even know it was there, and it is not an easy climb to get to it either. So watch carefully for it so as not to miss it. The lake itself is beautiful has a big beach and is a lake I would actually swim in which is saying something because normally I will only swim in pools, the water is very clear and clean looking.

This state park is AMAZING! For an out of state day pass it was $16 for us to visit the park. It was absolutely worth every penny. We hiked the East Bluff trail on the way to Devil's Doorway, and took the East Bluff Woods trail on the way back. It had snowed the day before, so there was still quite a bit of snow on the ground which made many parts of our hike difficult. Make sure you have shoes with good tread, or that you have some walking sticks. I would highly recommend checking this place out for camping or hiking. We'll definitely be back some day!
