Dildo Run

Overview

Dildo Run Provincial Park offers a quiet, forested escape on New World Island, serving as a primary destination for travelers exploring the northeastern coast of Newfoundland. It sits along the scenic Reach Run, providing a gateway to the hundreds of islands scattered throughout Notre Dame Bay. The park is highly regarded for its serene atmosphere and well-spaced sites carved into the natural spruce and fir landscape, making it a peaceful retreat for those who appreciate the outdoors.

Location & Surroundings

Situated in Summerford, NL, the park provides direct access to the Road to the Isles, one of the province's most picturesque driving routes. Its unique name refers to the narrow, shallow waterway that sailors historically used to navigate the local archipelago. Travelers will find themselves surrounded by rugged coastal beauty, with several campsites offering glimpses of the sparkling water or sheltered protection within the dense, mature coastal forest that characterizes the region.

Amenities & Park Features

The park features 55 campsites, many of which provide 30-amp electrical hookups to comfortably accommodate modern RVs and trailers. While the park maintains a rustic, nature-first vibe, visitors have access to all the essential facilities required for a comfortable stay. This includes a well-maintained dumping station, fresh drinking water taps, and centrally located washrooms with hot shower facilities. Each individual site is also equipped with a sturdy picnic table and a fire pit for traditional evening campfires.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Outdoor enthusiasts can explore the 1.3-kilometer Dildo Run Trail, which winds gracefully along the shoreline, offering views of the many offshore islands. The park serves as an excellent home base for visiting the historic town of Twillingate, where you can embark on iceberg spotting or whale watching tours. Additionally, the park’s location is ideal for those planning a day trip via the ferry to the world-renowned Fogo Island or the charming Change Islands.

Who This Park Is Best For

This destination is ideal for RVers who prioritize natural scenery and coastal tranquility over commercial resort-style amenities. It is especially appealing to birdwatchers, sea kayakers, and photography enthusiasts seeking to capture the essence of rural Newfoundland. If you enjoy wooded privacy and desire a central location to explore the rugged wonders of the Kittiwake Coast, this provincial park is an essential stop for your journey.

Spent one night in overflow. Lots of traffic noise plus people driving in at all hours to use wifi. Garbage bin at the site we chose (in the shade) was 3/4 full with smelly garbage, dog food pellets strewn under the picnic table, shelter and ramp in sorry need of repair, overgrown with weeds, but washrooms spotless.

Love the site and surrounding area. If your 25-30ft, ask for overflow. That puts you on the beach.

Quaint provincial park, close to Twillingate which is the coastal town attraction. The park itself has some nice sites, clean restrooms, electrical and water hookup although there was an advisory not to drink the water. The gravel road within the park badly needs to be repaired, lots of deep potholes. There is one really nice hiking trail to Blackhead, in the park of moderate difficulty, 2 km one way. Hike up to a summit point overlooking a beautiful set of islands.

What an amazing Campground. An the amicable rangers are something: you feel secure and cared for. The comfort cabin is clean and the site is amazing.

It was like party central between the locals heading to the park to get loud and drunk and some seriously hyper active kids. Right off the main road you can hear traffic a lot. The comfort station was dated but clean. The hiking area is nice my dogs enjoyed the walks.
