Discovery Yukon Lodgings & RV Park

Overview

Discovery Yukon Lodgings & RV Park serves as a tranquil sanctuary for travelers navigating the legendary Alaska Highway. Located near the border of Alaska and the Yukon, this park offers a rustic wilderness atmosphere combined with historical intrigue. It is widely recognized for its park-like setting and the fascinating collection of vintage military vehicles and road-building machinery displayed on the grounds, reflecting the region's rich history and the construction of the highway itself.

Location & Surroundings

Situated at Mile 1130 of the Alaska Highway, the park is nestled within a lush, forested landscape just south of the community of Beaver Creek. The surrounding area is characterized by untamed boreal forests and vast mountain ranges. This remote location offers a true sense of isolation and peace, making it an ideal base for those wanting to experience the authentic Yukon wilderness away from the noise of more crowded hubs during their northern trek.

Amenities & Park Features

The park provides a variety of accommodation options, including spacious pull-through RV sites designed to accommodate large rigs with ease. Travelers can enjoy access to exceptionally clean washrooms and free hot showers, which are a highly valued highlight for many long-distance explorers. Key features include:

  • A cozy soup and sandwich shop for convenient meals.
  • On-site laundry facilities to refresh travel gear.
  • An engaging outdoor museum featuring historical artifacts.
The property is designed to feel more like a private estate than a standard campground, emphasizing natural spacing and mountain views.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

While the park itself is a destination, its proximity to the Beaver Creek Visitor Information Centre makes it easy to learn about local border history and customs. Nature enthusiasts can explore the nearby Tetlin National Wildlife Refuge or take a scenic drive toward Kluane National Park and Reserve to see massive glaciers. The area is also fantastic for bird watching and spotting local wildlife like moose or grizzly bears that frequently roam near the highway corridors.

Who This Park Is Best For

This park is ideally suited for Alaska Highway explorers who appreciate a quiet, natural environment over a high-traffic urban resort. It is a perfect fit for history enthusiasts and photographers who will enjoy the antique machinery displays against the rugged backdrop. If you are looking for a well-maintained, spacious stopover that captures the rugged spirit of the North, this location offers the comfort and character needed for a restful stay.

Stayed here in a cabin for one night on our return from AK. Wish we could have stayed more. Simple but great setup. Microwave, refrigerator, toaster a couple bowls. Beds were very comfy with multiple blankets. Slept great!

We were part of a Newmar caravan passing through into Alaska and stayed here twice (both directions). What an amazing campground. The owner and staff worked hard to keep 24 large RVs happy, while still supporting their longer term guests. Electricity is limited by their generator size, and 24 big rigs can pull A LOT of power. We encouraged our team to self limit to 15 amps and we were able to add additional caravan members into their power circuit. Owners worked with us to make it happen. They also setup the fire pit and provided a lot of wood for our ice cream social and best practices meeting. The road from this campground to the CA/AK border is ROUGH, so this is a great stopping point. Such a peaceful and beautiful location. Nice museum area with some old tools, trucks and gas pump. Rarely used grass airfield borders the campground, great place to run large dogs.

We were arriving late but they were still able to accommodate us. They even left a map to help us find our site. Amanda was very helpful on the phone and in person. Plus she made the best coffee! The wall tent was comfortable and the restrooms were very clean. Would definitely stay again.

We booked long ago. Arrived after challenging AL/Can drive to this beautiful location. Set up our RV and bought homemade dinner prepared by our host. ( Dessert also.) Service is excellent and you won't be disappointed. Bonus for me as I found beautiful moccasins made by local artist. I luv supporting local as we travel. Highly recommend this business.

This is a gem of an RV/ tent experience, especially given they are off grid. Good clean nice quiet historic place to stop for a rest on your way to or from the border. I will definitely be back. It was a rainy night, and the lodge was a good place to warm up. Nice people. They have 15/30 amp only, or dry sites too, and offer cabins and walled tents but those were all booked so i stayed in my car in an RV site and plugged in for power. .They have bathrooms and warm water. Need coins for showers.
